Well after a few days of choosing the video card I found myself with a horrible conflict of views around the articles on the web

First it was the GeForce 8800GTS 640mb vs the Radeon HD 2900XT

many people recommended the 2900XT cuz the drivers were making it better and had the possibility of becoming better than the 8800GTS 640MB, but after the new 7.7 drivers a HUGE amount of people just lost fate and immediately recommend the 8800GTS 640 over the 2900XT they had previously recommend cuz it looks like the 2900XT reached its limit

Now some people (including GS) that if you dont want to deal with this 8800GTS vs 2900XT simply get the 8800GTX but here is where it gets confusing

GS says that the GTX is in another completely different level of power when compared to the GTS or 2900XT and that extra cash (around 120 more than the others) is worth it to get the best performance all around

But then I find articles in respectable places like Toms Hardware that say the GTX ONLY performs considerably better than the GTS in VERY high (2048 x 1536 aprox) res and the rest is just waisting money

the other comments I find is that the GTX is EXTREMELY large to the point it might cuz trouble to some peple, can any one comment about this? just exactly how big is it

The 8800 series (except the ultra) and the hd2900xt are worth the money.

The 8800gtx is 11 inches/27.9 cm long.

IMO! The GTX is the best way to go right now and for the games coming out in the fall. It's worth the money! You could ALWAYS wait for the next generation card. Waiting sucks, and there is always new stuff coming. I would buy now and start enjoying it!

im seriously just gonna wait for the next gen of cards, or the 2950, but that all depends. next gen of nvidia cards should come out by the end of the year i think, hopefully not long after crysis releases, but even if it is im waiting untilthey figure out a more reliable dx10 solution

I will also wait for next gen nvidia cards. Wont upgrade till than. That way i can get best performance now and later. If 8800 GTX will struggle in games i will probably try to pick up 9 series too.Seriously.

if you can only if you cancould you post a pick with the card attached to the mobo (to see how much the extra part stick out)

No problem. And as domke13 said an 8800GTX looks small in an TT Armor (well not really).

Here is a picture from right after I built my system. I warn you it is a mess and very cluttered. I have made a lot of changes sense then, I am currently upgrading to watercooling and my computer is waiting for a southbridge fan, so my GTX is sitting in it's box for now, or I would take a better picture.

About heat. My 8800 GTX idled at 70°C and reach around 80°C at load. But that was whit 60% fan running. When i put it on 100% GPU runs around 60°C on idle and around 65°° under load. Hot card.

Just finished her up this morning. Yeah I was sorta embarrassed by that cabling, but it was just temporary. I never fully organize my cables until I feel confident there will be no RMA's (LOL bad experience's). But considering how much crap I got in my tower I think I did pretty good with cable management this time around.

And on the issue of the GTX heat, mine was idling about what domke13's was until I added the TT slot fan. I modded it (duck tapped a piece of cardboard to it) to allow fresh air from front to get to the GTX and the exhaust that escapes from the slits in the cooler should be the only air the slot fan exhausts. Now it idles in the low 60's.

Here's a picture of my more organized case. Here's a close up of the GTX area. Here's a shot showing just how flashy it is.

And here's a picture showing were I hid everything, LOL.

It cost more than I should have spent, LOL. But water cooling has been something I have wanted to try for a while. It's a swiftech kit. I also got a northbrige water block seperatly, only $20.

This is the slot fan I am using. While it does help, I am not quite sure it is worth it, but oh well.
