Yes. Yes. There are, but they sure as hell can't play games nearly as well. That is all.

You can get the same laptop for 60% of the price. it just doesn't say alienware on it. Alienware is like the Mercedes of computers. 50% of the price is just for the name. Take a look at the high end Asus laptops at their website. Look at this one. http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=8je5Ot4HBnKOdT81

Lol, that laptop is twice the price and is for a whole different purpose. The m11x is basically a netbook that plays games well, that's a huge laptop that is basically a desktop replacement.

I think that the m11x is pretty nice, and really the only alienware computer I would recommend.

If you can deal with a small monitor on a powerful machine it's great, if you can't then it's not so good.

Personally i don't like it, i like having lots of screen space and see no point in having all that power when i can only access it via a tiny monitor. Light cheap netbooks, mid power laptops and big heavy high power desktops is what makes sense to me I suppose you could dock it, though considering the comparative cost between a netbook + desktop combo and a docked M11X it dosn't seem worth it in 99% of circumstances.

A friend of mine in Kuwait owns one. His opinions are basically that it's a nice ultraportable laptop that has some decent gaming capability for its size (especially given that past ultraportables had slower CPUs and integrated graphics for twice the price 'til the netbooks showed up), but is by no means a replacement for a desktop. (Especially not his overclocked Core i7/Tri-SLI GTX 285 monster of a desktop.) What do you want in a laptop, anyway? What are you planning to use it for outside of gaming (which I still feel is best left to a desktop)?

You could squeeze a Sony Vaio Z into that budget, Not as good at gaming as the M11x, but better general use.

Mine just came in today. It's a very nice small laptop with decent gaming capabilities and amazing battery for the power that you're getting. There are two of things you need to know when buying a "gaming" laptop, if you've never even owned a regular laptop before. First, trackpads are not suitable for anything, specially gaming, they're "ok" for browsing and what not. Second, there may be A LOT of gaming laptops out there that claim to have the best performance, yet 95% of them can't use any of that power while on battery which is pretty much any time you actually need/want to use the laptop so if you want to play you have to stay plugged in, hence they're called "desktop replacements", in other words it's like you have a gaming desktop with a screen attached to it and you can take it anywhere. Now on to the M11x. First it's small, it's smaller than a "regular laptop" so it's doesn't feel like you're lugging something around with you but it's definitely a bit bigger than a netbook, which are ridiculously small. Yet it's a bit heavy for what it looks like and it's dimensions. Back to my other point about "gaming laptops", the M11x works because it's small, it has a small screen with a low-yet-decent resolution with a low end graphics card(mid range for laptops) that it's just powerful enough to run games at high/medium settings with playable framerates(you won't be breaking 60FPS anytime though), and because the graphics card isn't really that powerful it doesn't consume that much battery so the M11x can actually play games while on battery for a good amount of time, and better yet for light tasks like word processing and browsing. It IS NOT, however, any kind of desktop replacement, it is designed as a COMPLIMENTARY device that gives you a nice fix of gaming on the go , if you're getting this as your primary gaming system you will be severely disappointed. It is nothing more and nothing less. To answer your questions, yes, it can play Starcraft 2 at highest settings at 45-50FPS. Yes, it can play most console ports at high settings, I have yet to try Assassins creed though but I know the game is poorly coded so it may not run that well, it doesn't even run that well on my desktop.

I play COD MW 2 on high settings perfectly , L4D2 runs silky-smooth , most games run perfect but you must remember that the M11x is a net-book and should never be compared to a full size laptop , you can game for over 3 solid hours on the M11x battery compared to a little over 1 on a regular size gaming laptop .

That's why I bought it , the small form factor combined with the ability to play most games , if you are really looking for a gaming laptop go for a bigger size or different brand although the Alienware M15x really delivers compared to same priced laptops .
