What games coming out for PC still have a chance of taking the title and stealing the crown!!

I'm pretty sure that WOW won the Gamespot GOTY in 2004 (over HL2 - I still can't believe that).
Also, on Gamespy COH came second!! (Another Wii game got it...) (2006)
If GTA4 comes out on PC this year, it'll automatically be GOTY.artur79
Perhaps if it is well optimised and a good all round port etc.
What is your reaction to this mob giving Gears of War GOTY over Company of Heroes?
I haven't played GOW but boy...

Lol, I haven't played CoH... I have a copy and all, but I just don't feel like playing it. I should give it away or something.
I dunno. Spore perhaps? STALKER clear skies?
It's been years since any game got a 10 here and in IGN, so um, no. I dunno.
But I do hope that comes out to pc eventually, and then, perhaps....perhaps.
Hehe
i'm sure gta4 will win most of the goty awards.
BUT that doesn't make it the goty (though it may very well be). i have high hopes for both starcraft 2 and project origin. i think they'll put up a good fight, at the very least.
and orignally a 9.5 at GS which was later changed to 10naval
Really? They actually published the review as a 9.5? That's interesting. No way it's an error, and while review scores have been changed after the publishing of the review in the past (Company of Heroes, for example), it seems remarkable that a game could jump half a point just like that.
Jumping on the bandwagon, perhaps? Looking to compete with the sensationalist reviews from other sites?
If there's one thing I've learned about review-writing, it's that the fans want to hear good things about the things they love, and GTA sure has a lot of fans.
I'm not saying GTA4 doesn't deserve a 10 (I think it does and I haven't even played it), but this raises an eyebrow.

well in the front page it was there orignally GTA IV 9.5 and they change it after that
also, when they change the reviews earlier they generally mention the reason also

The controversey!
And people here wonder why I am suspicious and skeptical of that San Andreas and its popularity!!
(Not saying that GTA: IV is really bad at all so hold back the tomatoes)
plus, the review came out later than anywhere else. so they had time to read other sensationalistic reviews. it'd be surprising if they'd bumped up the score for the sake of pleasing gta fans and compete with other sensationalistic reviews after the fact when they had two days to contemplate whether or not to bloat the score. i think it was just a mistake, though i'm not saying that they didn't give it a ten unfairly to begin with.
As far as I'm concerned no game deserves a perfect score. I'm not fussed on the GTA games either, but as you say it looks like everyone's jumped on the bandwagon to sing its praises.
If Dragon Age comes out this year, I think that game has a chance of winning awards. But when it comes to GOTY it's all just a matter of opinions anyway. Being GOTY doesn't necessarily mean a game is the best of the best, only that it's popular.
let's not jump to conclusions, though i agree it's highly suspect. :) it may have just been a mistake. anyone read the review when it first came out. did they change it at all since? cuz they must have mentioned why it doesn't deserve a ten; or at least mention some of its shortcomings. now if they'd change the review itself, even in the slightest, it would be enough to incriminate them.plus, the review came out later than anywhere else. so they had time to read other sensationalistic reviews. it'd be surprising if they'd bumped up the score for the sake of pleasing gta fans and compete with other sensationalistic reviews after the fact when they had two days to contemplate whether or not to bloat the score. i think it was just a mistake, though i'm not saying that they didn't give it a ten unfairly to begin with.

All the reviews are saying how "likeable" your Russian character is.
Also, both Gamespy and IGN use the terms "Oscar Worthy" or something like that.
lol, as if they are not copying. Who wants to be the party pooper who says "There's a few things wrong here.."
someone pm the reviewer, justin covert, and ask him to explain it.
http://www.gamespot.com/users/JusticeCovert
maybe the chancellor of pc games forum should do it?
although i doubt anything will be explained. if he were respond to b_l, he'd probably say along the lines of (in a robotic voice) 'it....was...just...a...mis...take...by...our...web....de...sign...ers.'

by the 'it' in 'anyone read the review when it first came out,' i meant the gamespot review. i'm just wondering if they changed the actual content of the review at all and not just the score.
I sent him a message.

Good evening my good Sir.
Allow me to introduce myself: biggest_loser. I am the Chancellor for the PC Games Forum.
A rumour has spurred recently that the critics score for GTA: IV changed from 9.5 to a 10.
Can you please clarrify whether that is true or not?

as far as i know review was not out just the score was displayed as 9.5
Also what score did COH originally get?
biggest_loser
CoH got 8.9 originally because there were some issues with the straight-out-of-the-box game with some nvidia cards, but a patch was released pretty much on day 1 that fixed it, so they bumped it up to a 9.

well, you could view it the other way. despite the game having problems with some nvidia cards, they only deducted one measly mark.

9,5 is about right IMO. CoH has so much going for it and is spectacular in just about every department if it wasn't for the technical issues it had, it would've easily been worthy of a 10.
edit: damn you gamespot messing up my sentences.

Can GS be trusted with any games? When Gears of War and Oblivion score 9.6, and when S.T.A.L.K.E.R scores an 8.5, well... do I even need to finish my sentence?

I agree, i actually just finished STALKER today and its honestly one of the best games iv played in awhile. if gears can get 9.6 then STALKER deserves a score above 10. I cant wait for clear sky, if STALKER is anything to go by it will probably be my GOTY.
answer to thread, spore could win it.
This is ridiculous though all the perfect scores. Now the gaming industry is a bunch of sheep and are afraid of being ridiculued for giving the game a 9.0 which it probably deserves. I mean seriously how original is it? How good are the visuals? And there are bugs in it. The game definetely DOES NOT deserve a 10!

The visuals are amazing, I have seen no bugs and games dont have to be original to be good
I still can't get over how much hype there is with the game... it is disgusting.

If GTA4 comes out on PC this year, it'll automatically be GOTY.artur79
It doesn't matter, when they pick GOTY, they don't put GTA4 on PS3 and GTA4 on 360 seperately
However, GTA4 will be twice better on PC ('cos of mods, controls, graphics etc.), but will probably get a 9.5
Even though I haven't played the game, I don't think it deserves a 10 (no tanks, no planes), and I think that MGS4 will be better, but will not get a 10
He's a gun for hire, but Niko Bellic is the most likeable GTA protagonist to date. gamespot
I highly doubt this, I didn't like Nico from the trailers and nothing can beat Tommy Vercetti
Also, I don't think it's better than Vice City
I think this game is (even though probably great) waaaay overhyped and (like always) reviewers promote them by giving high scores ('cos they get paid by publishers and/or developers)
Hmm, I'd like to see some proof about this 'changing the score'-thing, but if that happened... Verrry suspicious. Especially with GS' past. The last thing they need now is another review-scandal.
Why do people dislike the hype that surrounds the game? "It's disgusting." What, does the hype come into your house and **** all over your carpet, piss in your cereal bowl and leave cursing for you to hate it that much? Just ignore it and make up your own mind when the game comes out on PC. Seems to me people are soooo not wanting to be part of the "sheep-pack" that they'll say anything to distance themselves from people that are genuinly happy about the fact that a highly anticipated game has arrived. Party poopers... No offence.
Fox, you don't like to pay money for long games, buy games like COD4 or Crysis. I spent 100 hrs or so in VC and loved every minute of it. Again, no offence.
Edit: Nevermind about the proof.
