I was thinking about getting The Sims 2. Is it any good? Would you highly recommend a different one?

If your a girl... just kiddin, yea its an alright game if you like those kind. My girlfriend really likes it, not enough explosions and fighting for me though. Its a lot better than the first, better graphics, better gameplay..well kinda the same lol. I guess its a fun game.

It is a much more complicated version of the first game. It also lacks alot of the charm that Will Wright brought to the first one. If you enjoyed the first one and are looking for more it is definitely worth it if you have the rig to run it.

Its not that rough on hardware.

It shouldn't be, anyway.

I'll admit I used to be in obssesed with the Sims. I have grown out of that obssesion but if you are going to get one I highly reccomend getting the first Sims and a few of the expansions. I especially reccomend the expansion that lets you have pets.

Sims 2 I thought was going to be great but really for some reason it just isn't as fun.

While a lot of people pan the Sims games for not being "hardcore" games (I disagree), there is a reason it's one of, if not the, biggest selling franchise of all time. Huge numbers of people love it. Personally, I think Sims 2 is a great game, or software toy, or whatever the hell Wright calls it. It's not nearly as easy as some people think it is, and I'm constantly being surprised by things as I play it. The community is absolutely huge, you'll be able to find no end of custom, player made items, houses, clothes, etc, as well as mods and hacks. It's a slower paced game than even most strategy games, but if you don't need the constant adrenaline rush, you might find it to your taste. The basic game isn't too expensive any longer, so it's probably worth a try, anyway.

I can be, especially if you start putting a lot of custom content into the game. It is a serious RAM hog.

Yes, the Sims 2 is a great game that you can continue playing for hours, I really like games that don't really have an ending so you can just keep on building and building on your character. Only thing I don't really like is the aging option, but you can prevent that in the game.

It's fun for the first 20-60 hours or so.... but then you realize.... you're not really accomplishing anything within the game. You are just watching someone else's life go by. And it doesn't have a story or any set goals, either....

I was one of those people that didn't understand all the hype surrounding The Sims. When I finally got around to playing it though, I became addicted. Theres a lot of humorous moments and its very easy to play and understand. One of my favorite PC games.
