The beginning is a bit slow, it definitely picks up in Act II or III if I recall.

i agree with previous poster, it does start of fairly tedious but if you like rpg's you will soon be sucked in and not long after that you will be convinced you are playing one of the best rpg's you have played in recent times ;)

i remember that first act was actually the demo, sure made me scratch my head..

Looked like a great RPG....loved the setting, characters, dialogue, graphics... The combat just put me off after a few hours....sometimes it was too clunky....

probably the best none-cIass solo CRPG ever. it's quite barren in character building, but shines in convoluting quest design and moral decision role-playing.

the game starts slow just like many CRPGs, since oftentime the first map is to teach gamers to know the basics of the game.

maybe it's because of the slow start, or maybe the game just isn't your cup of coffee...

I may have to retry this game at some point if it gets better. I thought it was boring too.

I have the same problem of being stuck just after I get out of the stronghold in the first act.

Maybe I should just force myself onwards.

I hear the game gets better the further you play it. I never made it that far personally, but from what I've heard and seen, it does indeed look to get better the further along you get into it.

It's good. I also felt the start to be kinda slow and boring but it picks up after you enter the city Vizima, that's where things get more interesting but I just can't get myself to continue the game since I'm stuck in a hard boss battle.

The story and leveling up is fantasic, the charecters, setting and lore are well developed. The thing that lets it down is the combat, it can feel robotic and difficult to move sometimes, but dont let it put you of its still a great game. The combat works, its just the weakest link in the game.

Boring how? Its probably all those Michael Bay movies. If you are not emptying magazine after magazine into something, its boring?

You know I tried it but i couldn't really get into the game and its style of playing. I prefer more of a first person view to the game. But that is my opnion I have heard other people say its an amzing game, but it just didnt do it for me

It's my favorite game this gen, my second favorite RPG. I can see how people can get annoyed with it though. My opinion? Stick with it, don't toss it off. When i first played it I uninstalled it., i thought it was mediocre and it really annoyed me. The second time I tried it i completed it, throughly enjoyed it, and I've replayed it about five times since then. So don't give up just yet. I think it will grow on you.

The Witcher flaunts its M-rating with more pride and arrogance than I've seen any game do since Fallout 2. For that alone, it's worth playing. :)

Don't listen to that guy. I like a lot of different RPGs, from Diablo to Final Fantasy, but there are some I just can't get into. Namely Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights.

[QUOTE="sataricon"]Diablo and FF aren't RPGs. NWN...BG....torment....KOTOR...dragon age...etc. These are RPG RPGs are about choice and decisions...about making your charter have a say in what is about to happen and how will it happen. I play diablo and many Jrpgs but i can't consider them true RPGs...ironic i know.

I think they are sub-categories... I've always considered Diablo like an ACTION RPG....while Baldurs Gate a STRATEGIC RPG.. RPG stands for Role Playing Game....hell, even an FPS could be considered RPG since you are Playing the Role of someone else...

The down-side with that analogy is that Pac-Man also becomes a role-playing game since you're playing the role of a yellow circle-head that eats little white dots. ;)

Please, the first Act in the Witcher was linear and there's only like, 1 decision at the end of it.

It's not so much the name, as the meaning behind it that counts. So far no RPG is more of a RPG than Diablo because the genre isn't clearly explained. They are different, of course.

Final Fantasy isn't an RPG? lol okay.

Google "Role-playing game". You'll see that there are many different sub-genres of role-playing.

I love RPG but couldn't get into 'The Witcher'. The combat felt very slugish and I found it very boring. Put it this way, I won't be getting 'The Witcher 2'.

I think The Witcher is an excellent game; in fact, one of the best rpgs of the last ten years. This is my subjective opinion, of course.

The Witcher isn't for everyone. Some people hate it outright, but that does not exclude it from being an excellent game. For comparison, I also think Dragon Age is an excellent game, but I didn't finish it because I grew bored with it after a while. It became tedious for me to play. Different strokes for different folks.

Bottom line: Because someone does not enjoy playing a particular game does not necessarily mean that game is "bad". A well-crafted game is a well-crafted game. Whether or not you personally enjoy it is your own trip.

I may be the odd one out, but I found the chapter 1 area very enjoyable. I liked the story of the outskirts very much, the main plot never grabbed me at all. Once I got into the city, I just lost interest very quickly.

I actually enjoyed the simplistic combat. It made me feel like killing dudes was easy simply because of how bad*** Geralt was.

The only problem I had with the combat was this weird bug where I took damage even though it seemed like the baddies weren't even hitting me! Maybe they were just thinking it! Also, the health regeneration took literally 5-10 minutes. Its a flawed game, no one can deny that, but I found it surprisingly charming! It took me back to my YOUTH!

It does get better the more you play, especially when you begin to notice the impact of your previous actions and decisions and the extent thereof. The character development is another aspect of the game you should look forward too.
