is there a diablo 3 in the works?

There hasn't been any news of blizzard working on Diablo 3, just an announced MMO and starcraft 2.

I wish they would bring out Diablo 3 though.

Nope, at least not officially;). They said this year they will announce a game from their old ones, other than Starcraft, Diablo, Baldurs Gate, Warcraft, Blackthorn they don't have any so, sc2 was announced, wow no secrt there, baldurs gate there are rumors :), blackthorn the best at it's time but don't really know how they can make it "modern", and Diablo 3 deffinetely what better chance to make a top seller again (diablo 2 and LOD are still one of the most sold games even in the present). About Baldurs Gate 3, i don't know, never really liked it, but Diablo 3 @_@. The anniversary of Diablo is comeing soon (somewhere in summer) and they say they will announce a new game and it would be the perfect opportunity for diablo 3:D.

From leaks from Blizzard (true or not true) i can tell you that the action will take place somewhere before Diablo 1 and there will be parts similar to D1, D2 and future ones. The fight will be before Diablo becomes the emperor of hell. Rumors say the story revolves around the war of heaven and hell and the earth cough in between. Runors also say that this game should have been released in early 2007 but they weren't satisfied with the quality and they started to redo the battle system and other things. Some say that the weapons are affected by how evil or good(bigger, smaller, evil looking, cool looking, horned, blooded, white, sparkly, stronger, faster, and so on) are you the character develops certain features over time (muscles, scars:), and others) also heard something about the ability to grow wings :) devil or angel looking.

Anyway, however the final version will be, i hope it will be worthy of the name Diablo.

I'd say it will be announced on the 29. june. Blizzard has just taken over some spanish Diablo fan site, there has to be a reason for that :D

edit: to the Guy above me, Baldurs Gate is not from Blizzard.

I think most of the devs from the original diablo have left blizzardAndrew0987

As have most of the original Starcraft team, but that hasn't stopped them from making a SC2, has it?

starcraft has a more persistent player base. seriously, I love diablo 2 and everything, but dont count on a sequel.

It hasn't been announced, which means, officially, no.

But the reality is that Blizzard has three active IPs. StarCraft, WarCraft and Diablo. StarCraft 2 is coming, and Blizzard's last two full retail games were WarCraft 3 and World of WarCraft.

The evidence strongly suggests Diablo 3 is up next.

They do, but they all came from Diablo ;) i wouldn't be bothered if they would make a new engine for Diablo 2 and add new items a few missions and call it Diablo3. There are probably more than 50 games identical with Diablo, but still Diablo always is victorious, for one reason, it is perfect, you don't expect anything more from it because you get everything you want. I have my doubts that Blizzard can make good games like they used to ( i look at SC2 and WOW, especially SC2 what have they done to make them better than the previous ones (except wow) new engine and a few units, especially protos and that's all).

yeah but i dont think that Diablo 3 would compete with WOW... cuz it would be a sequel o w/e from the past games... not exactly a mmorpg such as WOW i would say that it would like the 2 first games... otherwise i would be called like world of diablo? :S i would not like that they make something like WOW based on diablo... that would compete with wow... besides if they make diablo 3 it would be on the time before the 1 as someone said before here cuz following the storie line baal is dead, diablo is dead, mefhisto is dead...( i killed them a couple hundred times :P) and i dont think that will work for a mmorpg based on diablo or atleast that is the way i would like it to be... like the 2 original games...
