Is there a huge difference between 8800GT 256mb and 8800GT 512mb?

Like the title says, is there a significant increase in performance because of the memory? I was looking at both of these cards:

Go to Tomshardware if you want a gimped graphics chart that has very little relevence given the different drivers and sometimes even platforms and game versions used. I don't trust their charts at all.

According to the Tom's Hardware benchmarks, the 9600GT is similar to the 8800GT 256MB in low-resolution tests without antialiasing applied (though the newer card still wins more than it loses), but it largely crushes the 8800GT 256MB in anything above that.
