Yes, attachments are saved on your hard drive when you open them directly from an email, and sometimes they linger. Look under C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK966 or something similar. Make sure you have Windows Explorer showing hidden and system files.

FYI, your OLK folder may be different than mine, and it is REALLY hidden. You will need to know what it is for you to be able to access it.

In Outlook, open an attachment (any attachment made with an app, like Word). Then, when its open, click Save As. This will open the file window and there you can see the name of the OLK folder it wants to save it in. Write it down.

Now, in Windows Explorer, go to C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files. You will not see any OLK directory. That's OK. In the explorer address bar, manually add the name you wrote down an the end of C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files and hit enter. It will open the OLK directory for you.

I have a similar question. When you empty the recycle bin, does it save a log with the file names or save compressed versions?

That folder holds attachments that were opened from emails but for some reason were not deleted. If you dont delete them manually, they stay there forever.

Do you remember the file name of the image? It may be best to simply search for it, making sure "search hidden files and folders" and "search outside of index" (or something similar) are checked.

I disagree with you on that....because there is specification amount of disk space that can be used for Temporary Internet Files and it can be determine manually by user but the Windows usually put to it as I remember around 500 MB of disk space.

After it reaches that amount it automatically delete the old ones.

That limitation applies to temporary internet files created by Internet Explorer (cache). That has nothing to do with Outlook attachments (OLK).

Make sure you are looking inside the OLK directory, and not in the Temporary Internet Files directory. The OLK directory shouldnt have that many files. If you see cookies, you are in the wrong directory.

Just though I should point out that this OLK directory is outlook specific. If you are using an internet e-mail account this won't help you.

True, and you will NOT see it even if you have hidden files turned on. That is why in my instructions I explained how to figure out the name of the file, and you have to MANUALLY enter it into the address bar of Windows explorer. Otherwise you will never get in there.

thanx for the info. ZBoater :). and i would like to ask something: Does the Outlook leave the deleted file as they are or it convert them in new format (so that the outlook is the only one who can open them)

also is this the folder that the outlook put the old file in "C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook"

Ok, great. At the end of that address you have to add the name of the OLK directory. You can only find out the name by going to Outlook, opening an email that has an attachment, and double-clicking on the attachment. Once the attachment opens, hit Save As (in whatever application opened the attachment), and see what directory it is trying to save it in. It should be OLKXXX where XXX is a number. Write it down. Your number is different than mine, so the only way to know what yours is is by opening the attachment and trying to save it like I explained. The open upWindows Explorer and enter the address in the address bar like this

C:\Documents and Settings\PAPA\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLKXXX

The files are saved in the original format.

The folder is

C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLKXXX (where XXX is a number unique to your computer - read my post above for instructions on how to figure out what yours is).
