Is there any real world difference between an E5200 and the other higher priced Core 2 Duos such as E7400 and E8400 if you overclock it to the same speed?

With the E5200 dropping in price to around $65, is there any reason to pay $50 - $100 more for a Wolfdale chip if you can OC it to 3.6ghz or more?

Larger cache and SSE4 on the E7000's and E800's help with video editing, but does it help in games at all? Is the multitasking power better?

Multitask? no idon think so. The E5x00 is also a wolfendale architecture so my guess is that the only real benefit the other CPU's migth have is that they will be a little faster when large amount of L2 is needed. (and this isn't that such of big limmitation for most.) If you want to save a few $ getting the E5X00/E7X00 its a good idea, they OC quite well so you can outrun any stock C2D CPU anyway with a smaller prize. (that is if youre willing to OC.) But then again a E8X00 also can run big OC's. (saying they can be even faster.) If youre worried about multitask then you should opt. for a Quad instead. ( But any Dualcore is more than enough for 99% since most people don't encode music / ZIP large files / surf the web while they playing games.)

C2D 5xxx is more than enough for almost all of the games right now. You can also multitask with it like browse while playing. Think of having a better ram like 2-3Gb DDR3 or better. I can easily multitask while playing many games(except some system hogs like stalker, gtaiv or Cod:WoW etc)

Have a better Gfx card too all this will optimise your cpu to function to its best.(I reccomend you have good psu to ensure no power surge occours and damage your cpu components)

Forget buying another C2D for little increase in performance. try to OC it I've OCd it from 2.23GHz to 2.48GHz
