You could do one of two things

1) Buy a repeater

2) Buy a Wireless N router as they have better signal strength than a typical G router.

DD-WRT allows you to boost the transmit power of your wireless radio. It might improve your range, but it can also potentially damage your router if taken too far.

Dipole's are the way to go. There are quite a few other site out there that give advice similar to the one I linked, but I find it to be the best. Then again, I also deal with antenna in my radio hobbies as well. I'm used to making quater wave length dipole to resonate with the band I'm trying to tune. Lost art no days. Anyway, follow those instructions and you should be good to go. Also any MIMO B/G, or newer N router will really help in range. If you need extreme range and on the cheap, you might want to buy a couple of $20 routers at a Walmart and space them out in "access point" mode. This will give a very nice SNR to most homes and really helps in split level places where the SNR is ruined with floor/celing interference. What ever you do, good luck.
