I mean no SLI or Crossfire. One single card that can run it on very high at around 25-30 fps.

yeah a 8800gt can run it just fine on very high settings in direct 9 there was a thread about it not to long ago and a guy was running it in the mid to high 30s with a 8800gts 640mb and he included pictures of him in the firefights to prove it

Depends on the resolution. For something high enough to appreciate all the graphical details the game has? Hell to the no. Can't even run Crysis fluidly on a tri-SLI of 8800 Ultra's right now. What makes you think a single card would fare any better?

You have enough vRAM for the job, but the GPU's not really strong enough to make use of it. You'll have to say what resolution you want to run it in before any of us can give more concrete advice on what to do.

My 8800GT runs crysis with very high settings DX9 with 25-30 FPS at 1280x960. Heck I got 20+ FPS even with some AA on. If I play at 1024x768 its mostly 30+.

The 8800GTS 512mb is a few frames faster than that, so i'd bet an 8800GTS 512mb with a nice overclock could run very high settings in 1280x1024 at around 25-30 FPS easily.

Its true though, if you want to play on a big monitor, you won't be playing with very high settings smoothly on a single card.

Except he's talking about an 8600 512MB video card, not an 8800.

I'm not forcing you to do it. But I would suggest OC'ing that BFG a little more. My 8800GTX Ultra's were OC'd by EVGA and I squeezed an extra 200Mhz Core and 240Mhz Memory out of both of them. Overclocked my ass. Temps stayed the same in 37-40 degrees Fahrenheit range. Download RivaTuner at guru3d.com, Install it, and give it a whirl at your own risk. But it will definitely squeeze more out of your card.

Frying the card. Which has never happened to me. At the most, I'd say you'll see some artifacts on-screen and a few highly purplish colors before you reboot your computer and notice nothing permanent occurred. RivaTuner is a safe way to overclock, and I would GRADUALLY adjust it a bit higher than it already is. DO NOT GAMBLE by jacking the rates way through the roof. Just try RivaTuner 2.06 at guru3d.com, experiment a bit with what you'd like and then test it ingame. If you see artifacts, take both the core and memory clock down about 4Mhz until there are none.

you can turn down the settings of things to medium and some settings to high and get decent frames.....I hate people who dis the 8600 and say that it wont run crysis at all

The ultra is the fastest single card and i bet it would be owned running crysis in vista on very high with 4xAA and 16xAF at 12x10.I think the ultra will do the job at 10x7 maybe and the XP hack maybe at 12x10.

However even if i had an ultra i may just run high settings and a nice high resolution cuz very high settings are incredibly overrated atleast IMO.

With a 8800GTS 640MB @ 640/1700/900, I run it at 25FPS average on very high at 1280x768 res pretty much fine all the way through the game including the alien levels.
