[QUOTE="GS550L"][QUOTE="Van_SteubenZ"] For 500$ including os, but no keyboard, mouse, and screensVan_SteubenZ
Sorry for being tenacious, but I still don't think it's possible with the current price of hardware. A few of my buddies and I were discussing the exact same problem only a couple of weeks back, and we only barely were able to scrape together a decent system for about $600 when including the OS. The parts chosen, at best, were mediocre; the processor was an i3 2100, the video card was a 6670, and the enclosure and power supply were very cheap and not amounting to $100. The price of the hard drive is what really killed it; a mere 250GB hard drive cost a good $80, which was more than the price of the video card chosen.
http://www.informatics-tech.com/build-a-cheap-400-dollar-gaming-computer-2012.html-As much as I liked the Athlon II x3's, and despite the fact that it has an additional physical core, the x3 455 is not the equivalent to the i7-2640M.
-The laptop listed above has a 640GB drive. The drive in this build, while perhaps being faster, is half the size.
-Single channel memory (though admittedly, this can be easily remedied for next to nothing).
-The case and power supply are incredibly cheap. This was a major point of concern between my friends and I when we were discussing this issue, as a case and power supply at this price range will severely limit the upgrade options available.
And this is not taking into account that the laptop has a screen, keyboard, is a smaller form factor, and... you know.... is a laptop :P.
