make sure it is 1080p.

It is much better than any you can get at walmart. Do not buy tv's from walmart if you want hd.

good price if yur strapped for dough. I'd prefer one with at least 2 hdmi inputs though.

tube hd tvs are a cheap way to get HD.

That TV isn't 1080p and he won't get a 1080p set for $600.

That being said, with $600 as your limit, why not get the 30" of that set? I like them alright...its not like its the last TV you will ever own.

I have a 32" slim fit they are pretty nice tvs, have a lot of different inputs...They had some problems with the second gen models, but after getting mine replaced with a third gen it looks like they fixed it. I dunno if you can find a better tv for under 600, but if you could wait till the holidays to get some extra cash and see what goes on sale (black friday) you could prolly get something better for not much more than 600.

From the specs on that TV it should do a good job for you. Besides any thing below about 40 inches really doesn't make any differance between the i or p type of TV. You may want to check out a little larger display for about the same price or maybe just a few dollars more.

That is a terrible tv. It is actually the 2nd worst CRT set on the market behind Best Buy's Insignia line. If you have to be insanely cheap, go for an LCD monitor. If you have extra cash, a Sony CRT is the only CRT worth purchasing. Anyone who argues that the Slimfit is a good buy needs to get their head checked... and needs to do some research/testing.

i can tell you from personal experience that the samesung slim fit tv is a great tv. i own it myself and it's great. i recently upgraded to a 32 samsung lcd (pics of both are in my profile for proof) and i gotta say the better picture is definately better overal on the tube tv. the lcd has a much sharper image due to the higher resolution, but as far as most colors and blacks...the tube is the way to go. you also get ALOT less jaggies on the tube tv. go buy it. for the money its the best looking picture your gonna get. and they arent THAT big, but its heavy as hell....

I have a 26" 720p 1080i Samsung CRT HDTV and the picture is as good or better than the majority of LCD's on the market today. With a CRT you get true blacks, something that you won't find with LCDs.

QFT, if size and weight aren't an issue, you'll be hard pressed to find better picture quality with and LCD in the same price range. For the price, you really can't go wrong.

I have the 30" model of this tv and i had to get it fixed 3 times.... But after they replaced the tube, probably to a newer version it was great... You might get some geometry problems but those can be fixed with the deflection menu. It has a very clear picture and its very sharp

You are ALWAYS wrong when you end up with a slimfit anywhere near your house. They are terrible in every regard... there is no reason to ever consider purchasing one (unless of course you are terribly unprepared for your purchase). I feel sorry for every Slimfit owner who made a poor uninformed purchase.

if your budget permits you to go no bigger than 30 -32 inches then dont even worry about it not being 1080p resolution, to really see the advantages of that resolution you need a tv of atleast 40 inches. id also say that at this size it would be better to look at lcd than plasma, plasma have thier advantages (aswell as thier disadvantages) but again at this size it isnt as noticable and the lcd's tend to be a better value for money. samsung are a fantastic brand, however i dont know much about their crt range, one thing that i do notice is that there is no mention of this tv's contrast ratio or refresh rate, if you are buying predominantly for gaming , then both of these factors should be taken into account. another thing is that this tv seems to support 1080i but does it support 720p resolution, i couldnt find the answer to that while i took a look, i ask because 720p tends to be the preferred resolution for gaming as it copes better with faster moving images which are common in action packed games and such. again if this tv is predominantly for gaming, i would definately recommend supporting 720p resolution.

You cant even tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p when your screen is no larger than 42"

Once you exceed 42" you start to notice the difference quite a bit.

The size of the screen has zero to do with noticing 1080p. It is all dealing with seating distance. If you sit at THX distances , 1080p is readily visible. Why are people so dense that they always say "you need to have a tv of X size to see 1080p". People need to stop being morons and think for a second.

I really don't reccomend a tube hd-tv. Why? Well i've had 2 in my whole life * a wallyworld sanyo 28inch 1080i, and a 30 inch phillips* and they both seem to have the same problem. It is where you see lines moving across the screen, kindof like if there was power issues. But, even with power filter surge bars, it still remains. Though when i plug up a 51inch projection hdtv, it works perfectly fine. Its not too hard to deal with the issues with a tube hd-tv, but it can grow annoying to you after awhile.

Yes, a salesman at Best Buy is the best source. The people at best buy know next to nothing about television technology. Last time I was looking for a particular receiver in the Magnolia section that featured LPCM support through HDMI... the store had no clue what I was talking about. I think saying that you worked at best buy actually hurts your credibility. While CRT is the best display technology at the size, the cheaper non Sony CRTs are absolutely terrible. People who trust bb or circuit city salesmen should get their head checked.

What a thought, seating is the most important factor on getting the best angle of a tv, it has nothing to do with size.

seating also determines how well you can discern the difference between particular resolutions. So a 12" 1080p set would be worthwhile if you sit at the recommended distance. I am not sure what you just posted, it didn't really have a point to it.

Yes, you can get Flat-Tube HDTVs. But if you get a Flat-Panel LCD, you wont go back to CRT ever! I think you should wait and get a 32" LCD 1080p. So, save up a bit and get one that's a little better. Yes, yes. I know, that 1080p isn't as important for smaller sets. But the prices are coming down on 1080p sets. So, it will just "come with."

I still have to disagree on this. I have a CRT HDTV in my game room and we have a 32" Phillips LCD 720p television downstairs in the living room. I much prefer the picture that the CRT delivers over the LCD.

Good CRTs (namely Sony sets) will beat any other technology at the size. However, crappy CRTs like a Slimfit will look a lot worse than other technologies. Also, the fact that you are saying a CRT beats a Phillips LCD isn't saying a whole lot. Phillips has not made a decent television in over 15 years. You would just be better off saying the make and model of the CRT.

Yes, yes. I know, that 1080p isn't as important for smaller sets. But the prices are coming down on 1080p sets. So, it will just with.

I have a Samsung TX-P2670WH. I've had it for about 2.5 years.

Yeah. I should have clarified. CRT still do offer a better overall picture in uniformity and blacks. But the connivence and mobility of the flat-panel LCD is great. And the pictures are getting better and better. So, the benefits of the LCD outweigh (pun not intended), IMO, the benefits (picture) of the CRT. I mean, sure. A 26" or maybe a 32" Flat-CRT would be fine for some? But what about when you get to 46" 50" 52" and higher? The CRTs, flat or not are just too big. By the way. I also think that brand/quality has a lot to do with the picture quality of your LCD. I mean, do you think that the Samsung 4661 46" 1080p would look better than the Phillips? Or what about the Sony XBR3? Or the Sharp D92? I know what you are saying about CRT pictures. They tend to be smoother. I'll never buy a CRT again now that I've seen the better larger LCDs on the market.

I hear you, I have my eyes on a 42" Panasonic plasma set. Tiger Direct has a pretty decent deal going where you get a free 7.1 surround system with the the t.v. I'm just waiting to see how my finances shape up before I make the purchase.

Cool. They included a Onkyo. I always tell people that Vizio and Onkyo offer the most bang-for-the-buck in terms value. Especially for starving students.

I'm a starving student! And yet...looking at my living room...I hate myself...I wouldn't have to starve if it wasn't for this damn hobby that sends me back to wal-mart over and over again for games and systems. Hell, I just bought a DS today...when will it end?!

Samsung slimfits have notorious geometry issues. Don't belive me? Look at the thread in the avs forums. Filled with complaints of geometry issues. You can buy a TV of that series and hope that your TV isn't one of those or you can get a more reliable set.

a tube tv isn't a very good type to get

when i was getting mine at BESTBUY a couple years ago.. they said it had short lifespan so i ended

up buyina 32" inch panasonic viera 720 p HD TV for 2999!!!!!! got ripped off lol... i think

azimiballer

Short lifespan? There are still funtioning Curtis-Mathis' TV's flaoting around. That company has been bankrupt for over a decade now lol

And I wouldn't get a SlimFit, it's not that it's a bad TV but you sacrifice picture quality for size. If $600 is your budget I would recommend saving up a little longer so you can afford a nice 32'-37' LCDTV from a respectable company. And yes, Samsung is a respectable company.
