if you are buying this soon then definitely get a 680. i don't think the price difference is worth getting a 580 right now.

Not to mention 7970s are more expensive then 680s and don't perform as well overall.

the processor will come with one, and if your not overclocking you shouldn't need to get a different one. i would never build a system without a good after market cooler, but i'm picky.

with a good motherboard like asus V-PRO do ur self a favor : buy a cpu cooler of around 30$-50$ : and overclock the cpu to 4.5Ghz this is done by simply go into UEFI :put Voltage to 1.350V instead of 1.3V : and in number of [X] Multiplier selecting 45 from 33 : ur cpu go from 33x 100mhz = 3.3Ghz to 45x 100mhz = 4.5Ghz in exactly 3 minute it was stable also and cold temp with an Havik 140

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835146011 Havik 140 59.99$

it also reported to be cold & stable on a Stock Coolermaster Hyper 212+ at that Frequency but with a bit high temp yet stable : if you buy two fan for the Hyper 212+ it Get much colder like 2x 69CFM Fan from any Brand but just saying i seen lot of people with a 30$ cooler stock get there to 4.5Ghz

but if you buy a cpu cooler : get thermal Grease of ur choice : many people choice the Artic Silver 5 or Tuniq TX-3 which i think got replace by TX-4 it about 7$

ty i am very excited, the zotac 680 was all sold out so i think i am ordering the xfx double D OC 7970, do u think its worth the price of $200 more than the 7870? they both run at the same core clock but the 7970 has 2100 stream processing units where the 7870 has 1200?

how much is the 7970 exactly ?! compare that to a SLI / CF of 200$ card since ur board support that : and the psu support that given it a 750W
ie : let say you want the most power out of all situation : then ur likely to aim GTX 560 TI SLI or 7970 in sales then i don't know in 1-2 year you Crossfire it

or you could see another GTX 680 from micro center / ncix / tiger / newegg.com when ever there in stock : i would still try to pick a non ref design so more overclocking ie MSI Twin Froz / ASUS DC II / Gigabyte SoC (when they release)

because 7970 is usually way more expensive then GTX 680 :and quite weaker in most of game where a SLI of Weaker Card Can result in BF3 / Skyrim / Metro 2033 more graphic gain for more anti aliasing

I've seen some ridiculous 7870 cf benches where it returnes double fps than the single card, but literaly double. That looks like a sweet deal to me.
