I'm going to buy myself a gaming PC, and I have found this one at a pretty good price. So basically, I was just wondering whether I would be able to play most of the latest releases, like Crysis, with a decent frames per second? The specfications are posted below....

Thanks!

Galaxy 3 Case

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor (2 x 2.6 GHz = 5.2 GHz)

NVDIA Geforce 9600GT 512MB GDRR3 Graphics Card

4GB Kingston RAM

500GB SATA Hard Drive

Front And Rear USB Ports - 4x Rear, 2x Front

The answer is yes and no. First, the CPU is not 5.2ghz because it has 2 cpu cores at 2.6ghz. That's not how it works. Programs that are made to use 1 cpu core will benefit from 1 core at 2.6ghz, and programs that can use 2 cores will use both and give you better performance because you have a dual-core cpu. The increase is usually nowhere near doubling the performance on a single 2.6ghz cpu.

That CPU is now aging pretty quickly. My last machine had a 2.6ghz Athlon 64 x2, and I had noticed it starting to struggle with some higher-end games. I upgraded to my current rig and all is well. The Geforce 9600gt is a good budget gaming card, and can run most games at high settings. However, within the next year you will start to see that card struggling as well. Crysis will run decently (25-30 fps) at fairly high settings up to 1280x1024 or maybe 1680x1050 resolution, but that's pushing it.

My recomendation would be to go with a faster CPU (intel core 2 duo or quad, or AMD phenom 2), and a better video card. What's your budget? It's often cheaper to build your own rig. You could get a faster computer for less if you build it yourself, and it's not hard.

Yes it will run most games at max settings or High at the very least or if it is GTAIV medium that needs the 1GB of GPU memory.

But yes 9600GT 512MB is a good card = 8800GT 512MB in performance with 4xAA but a lot cooler GPU.

To be honest, I don't really want to spend much more than 400 to 500 pounds. I have already bought a 20 inch Samsung 1080p LCD TV which I have my current PC and my consoles connected too, so I don't need a new monitor or anything like that.

Ok, I am looking at a different PC for the same price now. Better, or worse? I think it looks better, because it has a quad core, but the graphics card is worse. By the way, if I got that I'd be paying the extra 25 pounds so that I could have the 4GB of RAM.

IntelQuad Core Q6600 Four core Processor.

Asus P5KPL-VMG31 Chipset 1333FSB Motherboard.

500Gb SATAII 7200rpm Hard Disk Drive.

2048MbDDR2 800Mhz memory (2x 1024Mb).

22x Dual Layer Lightscribe DVD Re-Writer.

nVidia GeForce 1024Mb 9400GT Graphics Card.

6Channel High Definition Audio. Multimedia Memory Card Reader.

IntegratedLAN 10/100/1000 Network Card.

Wireless 54Mbps Network Card.

7 USB2.0 Ports (4 Rear, 3 Front).

Expansion Slots - 1x PCI-Express Graphics, 1x PCI-E, 2x PCI,

4x SATA, 1x IDE, 1x Fdd IDE.

External Connectivity - 7x USB2.0, 1x RJ45 Lan,

1x Serial (Com1), 2x PS2, 1x Parallel (LPT1), 1x Speaker, 1x Mic,

1x Line In.

Even though the 2nd computer has a better CPU Q6600 it would perform worse because of the 9400GT Card. It is worse than the 9500GT in those graphs I've provided. It isn't a gaming card.

Listen to the TED the 9600GT is fine for gaming. The benchmarks I've shown prove it. Some people do not know what they are talking about though. If you could combine that with Q6600 then you will be talking. The only thing lacking from the first computer was the CPU, it is ok but not as good as the Q6600. Q6600 would get your more longevity.

Ok man. I hate to be a pain, but are these specifications still worse than my original post?

Here's a few different computers I have found.

Asus P5KPL Motherboard

500GB SATA2 16MB Lead Free Cache

4GB DDR II Kingston Ram

20x Dual Layer DVD +/- R/RW Drive

NVIDIA 9500GT with 1GB Memory

COMPUTER 2:

Intel Q6600 Quad-Core CPU (9.6GHz - 8MB Cache - 1066MHz)

4096MB DDR2 800 PC6400 Branded Memory

1TB Serial ATA 32mb Cache SATA2 HDD

NVIDIA 9500GT 1024mb Graphics Card

20x Lightscribe DVD Writer

COMPUTER 3:

Intel Core 2 Quad-Core Q6600 (8MB Cache - 1066MHz)

4092MB DDR2 Branded Memory 500GB Hard Drive (16MB Cache)

ATI Radeon HD 2400PRO 1GB

Sorry for being a bit on a PC gaming noob, but thanks for helping. :)

2400 is not a gaming card. Get any of those cards that get 30FPS or more at the resolution you will be playing from the charts. That means 9600GT/8800GT 9800GT or upwards nothing less or many a tear will be shed.

That is true. There is some sweat deals on Ebay. If you buy your own it usually costs you a lot more as prices have increased lately.

My computer I have in my specs now costs £100 more than when I paid for it. My Q6600 was £106 it's now £160 and rising.

it will run any game at 1024x768 max except crysis, although it really depends on what resolution you play games on.
