Lol. Let's put it this way -

The second review down says, "my old 430w axxec caught on fire, literally". Learn from this that cheap PSU's are NOT a good idea.

Yeah. He put in crap that caught on fire and he's buying another crap one. It's $30 mate. That's like ÂŁ15. I know that in the UK I should be spending at least ÂŁ45 (roughly $90) on a decent PSU. Not only that but you won't be getting 575W continuous power. It you were, it would be like 3 times the price. You're only asking for trouble if you buy that. HAve a look at Antec, Enermax and Seasonic for idea's of good units!

On the topic, which of these is a better PSU:
Rosewill RP550 $55
FSP AX500
The Rosewill has better specs across the board, but is there any reason it's cheaper?

Without even looking at the reviews, The FSP will be better. to the TC: Gregoroth is right, buy a good PSU now or buy all of your components over again next week.

the 500w of the rosewill scored well at jonnyguru, actually.. the one caveat was that you need to make sure your temps stay in the cool to normal range. if you do your research you can get away with something like that, i guess.. i'd probably bump up to the $100+ range myself, though.

PSU is the heart of your PC. If you were to think of it as a human body. You want a good heart, so the rest of the PC (Body) runs smooth. Look to Antec, Enermax, Corsair, OCZ, Silverstone for PSUs. Antec and Enermax have great PSU for a lower price. SmartPower from Antec and Noisetaker from Enermax.

Exactly. Lots of people with experience here only recommend those that work good in all situations. Things like Rosewill, but unknown brands like Apevia/Aspire or Eagle or something are all good to deliver power if your power grid would get no interference or have spikes and surges. But it's not a perfect world and lots of interferences from appliances on your grid that demand huge power, spikes, surges, line noise, etc. create instability, which your PSU has to cope with (together with converting AC to DC) as well. That seperates the basic stuff from the good PSU's, like mentioned by 9mmSpliff and people like myself here who know what they are talking about. We don't keep mentioning the same brands without a firm reason. Don't believe the others who keep claiming otherwise, they just don't know what they are talking about and rather be cheap then safe.

Well, each has their own pros and cons.
The FSP is more expensive because it has a PFC.
The Rosewill doesn't but has more amps on the +12v rail.

There is no reason to buy either one.
If you are looking for a budget PSU look no farther then the Sunbeam Nuuo 550w for about $60, usually is on newegg but has been off and on a lot lately.
If you are looking at the FSP, for the same price you can get an OCZ GameXstream 600w @ ZZF.com.
Or if you can spend a little more a $96 Corsair HX520w which is slightly better then the OCZ.
