I thinking about getting this computer and I was wondering whether it wouyld be able to run any new game on high settings and if not what games it couldnt run on high. In brief the specs are:

Intel Core™ i7-860 Processor
(2.80GHz, 8M cache)

Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Intel H57 Express

8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (dual-channel support on four DIMMs)

1TB 7200rpm SATA

SuperMulti dual-layer drive with Blu-ray reader

NVIDIA GeForce GT 330 with 2GB discrete video memory

It is a Gateway FX6831 and if you have had any experience with this computer please post!

You'll need to do better than a GT 330 if you want to play modern games properly.

In my opinion, build your own PC. Trust me when I say that you get a lot more for your money.

Very crappy video card, other then that the machine is pretty good.

And as stated already, you'd be better of just building a nice machine.

I wish I could build my own but I really don't have the time. If needed I will upgrade certain parts but I just want a PC that will play any game I want on high, and hopefully The Witcher 2 on high :)

Well that GPU certainly isn't going to be able to touch The Witcher anywhere near 'high' settings...(on any decent resolution).

You don't have 3-4 hours to set aside? :?

Well, you could always buy a PC similar to what you linked then toss & replace the GPU and PSU...

Those specs are not for a gaming machine but rather a business workstation. Avoid buying this machine. Go for a more balanced cheaper one. Also check out your screen resolution that you can use on your monitor. It;s not worth buying a machine with a kick a$$ graphics card is you will don't intend to use a large flashy screen.

I know a little bit about computers and I didn't really think this was a business workstation, I haven't seen many other machines instore that match the specs on this one. I can get this machine for $998 so I thought it was a good deal. -CheeseEater- are you serious about it not being able to touch The Witcher on high? I seriously don't know what else that beats it that I could buy instore, I would've thought that it would be able to play most of the games being released otherwise I seriously give up on PC gaming.

The main problem with buying prebuilt computers is they always give you more CPU than you need and less GPU than you need, there is never a good balance. And that machine has a pretty bad video card.

So if I upgrade the video card later on down the track will it be able to play most games coming out for a while?

Great, what card would you recommend? I really want to be able to crank The Witcher 2 on the highest settings.

I rather get a fast dual core and a fast GPU than a fast CPU and a slow GPU.

Well it easy enough to upgrade the graphics card and the CPU on the Gateway is fair decent, I have looked around and the only otyher Desktops that I could get are the small emachine stuff which I am definetely not going to get.

Also if you want to overclock, I hear that the i7-875K is very good for that, Falcon apparently OC'ed in to 4.2GHz once and it was stable...although it probably won't last long :-)

Take whichever build from there suits your price range as a base then get more suggestion from here for improvements. The 2nd £600 pound one would give you game performance something like this.

Building a pc is alot easier than many people think.

I took apart and rebuilt a pc in around 4 hrs.
