Is it normal that i can't max out R6 Vegas, Company of Heroes and STALKER ?

I know R6 Vegas is a crappy port, but i have to play @ 1024x768 with low shadow to get a decent 30+ FPS

With STALKER (again poorly optimised) i have to turn OFF AA, and even then the frame rate is inconsistent.

For Company of Heroes, shadows have to be turned down and AA OFF altogether, although i can play @ 1280x1024.

Rome Total War also gives me problems with the frame rate, but then i do have 2,000 - 5,000 men in a battle.

Is this normal for a 7950GT, E6600 and 2GB DDR2 RAM ?

Would a card like the 8800GTS be able to MAX out games at 1280x1024 with full AA and AF + shadows. ?

Also, would i benefit from another GB RAM?

As the previous poster stated, I'd make sure you have the current drivers for your hardware, from there I'd check temps and make sure it isn't an overheating issue.

GPU is currently at 58C idle. That sound pretty normal to me. I think cooling in my PC is fairly good (1 fan on CPU, 1 fan on GPU, 1 fan on inside of case and 1 on PSU)

I will check what drivers i am using.

In a way i am glad there is a problem... i though my PC was just crap, lol

No, its not overclocked. umm.... didn't realise 58C was a problem. Would that be what is causing the poor performance in games?

whack another case fan at the front if you can, that will help your temps wonderfully

also like others have said, check drivers etc and virus scan and spyware scan. Also check what processes you have running with the game, like virus scanners at the same time, they eat up resources

ok... now i am quite worried.

I just played a bit of Call of Duty 2, with MAX settings @ 1280x1024 and was getting frame rates of about 32-35 during firefights.

It would go higher than this is empty rooms (60), but at one stange it even dropped to 19FPS !

What really worried me was looking at these benchmarks. It seems they were able to MAX Call of Duty 2 @ 1920x1200 with an average of 35FPS

Your card is too hot, and will overheat if you don't throw in a couple fans in your case.

if you break some eggs put them over the case and they start to fry, your pc has a problem.

Extra case fans will not help his over heating issue. Usually you need to replace the VGA HSF to lower the temps. But I don't see how that is too hot. My X800XT would get close to 90c on full load, my 8800GTS gets about 82c on full load.

That temperature is acceptable and shouldn't cause any problems. Sometimes an older driver will work better so try one of those if it's available.

Try reformatting and fresh new installation of XP. Then Install latest drivers for your card.

Score is completely fine. Its not your GPU that is overheating. You have some software related problems. Your hardware is ok.

well, its good to know that my hardware is ok. Have you any idea what could the the software problem?

I've checked for virus'/spyware but thats not a problem. Could it be conflicting drivers somewhere? Currently i am using driver 93.71 for my GFX card.

Would a card like the 8800GTS be able to MAX out games at 1280x1024 with full AA and AF + shadows. ?

dbowman

Dont really need the 8800, the 8600 does it just fine.

yeah but not at 60fps. You definitely need a 8800 if you want 60fps. Anything bellow 40 stinks.

Did you try using a driver cleaner before installing those older drivers?

Try intsall the newest drivers. Defrag hard drive. Be sure that you dont run any programs like anti-virus, xfire... in background.

I experience myself just hour ago. I was running anti-virus, steam, xfire and spyware guard in background and went playing CoH and i played skirmish for 8 players. Frames went down to 25 on some places, than i closed those background programs and framerate got up to 40-50 on places where i was getting 25 before.
