A lot of my games will stutter just a little bit, especially as I enter a new area of the game, like go from outside into a house.

So like in HL2 Deathmatch, the game will start and I will go forward and turn a corner and the game will stutter. The next corner I turn the game will stutter again. But after a minute or so once I have seen the whole level, the game does not stutter at all. Is this normal?

and it's not because it is multiplayer, I have this problem offline too

EDIT: Here is a video. The video is kinda low fps, but watch the whole thing and notice how much faster the "ride back" is.

I have 4gb ram, I have already replaced my gpu because I thought that would fix it, and I have had this problem with both the current gpu drivers and the ones from a month ago.

Yeah I have the latest motherboard drivers. And is there anyway I can figure out if it is the motherboard, processor, or a corrupt harddrive without replacing all of them?

honestly i highly doubt its your processor, if there was something wrong with your processor your computer wouldnt turn on.... so its basically down to your motherboard, or harddrive... seeing as how both would be expensive to replace... so it might be your ram... could be a manufactures defect... and replacing your ram would be the cheapest move... and alot less time consuming than replacing harddrive, with the files and the OS and all.... another quick fix you can try to do is getting into your BIOS and setting it all back to default.... it just might work... maybe...

Any idea how I can tell what is causing the problem?

Also, I don't know if this helps anyone know what part is the problem, but it is very difficult to record my games with fraps. Often times it will cause the fps of games to go down to something around 50, but despite the fact that it shows 50 fps, there is stuttering like crazy and it is as if it is going at 5 fps.

hmm try calling the manufature of your GPU's technical support, they maybe able to help you, cause it still to me sounds like a stuttering issue that is with the 4870x2, and the 9800gx2, even though you have a 4870... hmm they might be able to help you a little better...might be able to direct you to more stable drivers, at this point i cant really help you out anymore, im sorry, but i dont want to direct you to do anything that may potentially damage any of your components or pc in a whole.

Fraps often causes games to stutter, as well as lose FPS. So if you have that on all the time...

It could be the motherboard, I had an issue when my I used all of my DIMM slots on an older mobo I would get a checksum error message the process was resolved by updating my bios but that should be a last resort option though.

Is your ram perhaps severely underclocked or running with a weird multiplier?

Judging from the video, this isn't a direct hardware problem at all. This is how your machine is reading the information. Once it's loaded it's been cached and ready for use when it needs it again. To help with this defrag your HD (I recommend JKDefrag), clean up unused registry files (CCleaner), and just generally keep your computer neat and tidy. Within HL2 there are commands to load everything you need pre-game, I believe it's cl_forcepreload (or something to that effect). It will cause longer load times (not really noticeable), but lessen the strain on the HD for reading information. Don't go out and buy new hardware.

Your HD and OS decide what file is used more frequently then others, so it stores them in places that it can access them the fastest.

Ok I did that think with Half Life and it definetely helped, but it still happened. I'd come to a corner, and it stutters.

My hdd is defragmented automatically every wednesday, so I don't think that has much to do with it. And I have been having this problem since I first got my computer a month ago, so I don't think the registry has anything to do with it either.
