Hi This is my first post and as you may have guessed, i need help! I bought a PC with only web and office applications in mind. I started a course at university in Computer Information Systems which only requires that i understand the basics of how computers work rather than understanding detailed specs of various components. Anyway, i'm now doing a lot of work using Adobe products like Flash, Photoshop and Dreamweaver, as well as microsofts visual studio for c#. I'm also wanting to start playing some strategy games such as Company of Heroes and similar type games (Oblivion, DragonAge, Command&Conquer, etc). That PC i bought was a rather cost-effective Packard Bell IMEDIA 2326. It's basic specs are; AMD PHENOM X3 8450 2.10GHz 1.5MB cache 3GB DDR2 667MHZ MEMORY 32-BIT OS (VISTA) 320GB NTFS 7200rpm ONBOARD GRAPHICS (mobo NVIDIA GeForce 8200) Firstly, is there enough there to be able to run most games released in the past year or so and also in the near future? (ignoring graphics card, or lack of because....) secondly, i've selected an nVidia 9800 GT 512mb GDDR3 as a card to gage peoples reaction to. It fits the bill in terms of supporting multiple monitors, but is it good for most games now and will it work with what i already have. OR do i need better? I'm also assuming because the motherboard is nVidia I should go for an nVidia gpu over ATI?? I have no idea if it supports crossfire/SLi as there is no manual and no sign as to who manufactured it, but i'd assume it doesn't! thirdly, the PSU with this pc is a woeful 250w and so i've selected an antec 550w psu to gage peoples reaction. Again, am i right in thinking this will satisfy requirements?
550 Watts would run a 9800 GT easily. What resolution do you plan to play games at? The 9800 GT is great, but once you get to 1680x1050 and above it starts to struggle a bit.
