Hi, Is Windows Vista getting DX11?

i've seen in a few places people saying it is has it been released yet?

if it is then im glad i dont have to upgrade £150 to windows 7 i don't really mind vista i have 6gb ram so no memory issues lol

anyone know any more about this?

Yes Vista is getting DX11. My guess is it will come out at the same time or soon after the release of Windows 7.

It will be released to vista through a patch. I dont see reason it wouldn't as Windows 7 is basically just a Vista v1.25.

Hmm...I wonder if I will get flame for that statement.

I want to see the difference first, by that I mean real-life benchmarks, screenshot comparisons, and a list of good games that will support this DX11 before I will commit to getting a DX11 capable card.

Windows 7 has a completely new kernal as well as a rebuilt networking stack. The only thing it shares with vista is its graphical interface and driver architecture. Its unfair to say its just a rebadged Vista. It might have the same chassis but its got a whole new powertrain.

Your right then it should be called Vista Super Sport or Vista SS for short

it's not completely new. stop overhyping windows 7. it was rewritten for vista. windows 7 just has some modifications to it.

Its not a new kernel. All of the Windows operating systems have the same or are based on the same kernel. Windows 7 is a more refined version of Vista's. Nothing is really new in Windows 7, its more like re-engineered/modified.

Windows 7 uses a slightly tweaked Vista kernel, and uses the same driver model. It's Vista SE. Performance is basically the same as well, not the Vista was bad in this area. Vista just had a bad first impression which MS is trying to fix by quickly replacing it with Windows 7.

I'll admit I was wrong about the kernel. I was under the impression it was modified enough to make it unique from Vista. In any case, I wasn't trying to "overhype" Vista. It seems there are two kinds of people these days, those who only use XP and anything that ever comes from Microsoft every again must be trash, and those of us who realize that Vista was screwed and are happy that we have something good to look forward to. I spoke up because I'm tired of the mentality that because Windows 7 is based off of Vista then its gonna suck hard. Being excited about a product is not hype. I just got the facts wrong. I'll try not to accuse you of over hyping the next game you admit to looking forward to. The whole "blah its just Vista in sheeps clothes!" doesn't help anyone. PC gaming needs a shot in the arm and Windows 7 is the best option we have.

The thing is Vista wasn't or isn't hosed, it is a good OS. If Vista had never come out and we were going XP -> Windows 7, the driver/hardware problem that plagued Vista would have happened with Windows 7. Vista bearing that load will make most people happy with Windows 7, especially since most people don't even know how similar they really are.

actually i'm someone who says vista is totally fine. and i've used both xp and vista. vista had driver support problems when it first came out...which gave it a bad name. and lame apple commercials attacked vista. the mojave experiment says it all. vista is really not bad. people have just been manipulated into thinking it's bad. windows 7 is a renamed vista. it's renamed so people who refused to buy vista, have a way of buying it while still boycotting vista. these people were outsmarted by microsoft. now before some people say windows 7 is not a renamed vista, yea i know there are some changes to it. but it really is a tweaked vista. if you like windows 7, then you never should have hated vista in the first place (apart from early driver problems). and if UAC bothers you, it can be disabled, noobs.

I agree 100% with this post! Vista is a great OS and its only two down sides are using quite a bit of RAM and UAC...But RAM is Very cheap to buy and UAC can be turned off in 5 seconds.
