That depends on your system, the age of the games you play, and your general knowledge of OS'. I would personally recommend it, but if you're not building a new rig/don't have a DX10 card, then hold off.
ive been thinkin about getting widows vista basic a lota people say it sucks does itrex97213
I've been thinking about getting windows vista basic, but a lot of people say it sucks. Does it?
fixed.
And it doesn't really suck so much, as it isn't better than XP for non-DX10 functions.

My tower is XP. My laptop is Vista Premium. Now I know the difference between tower and laptop hardware in-so-far as gaming performance goes, but the level of difference in World of Warcraft installed on both systems is far too much than to be the difference in a 7900 gt and a 7400 go. Especially with WOW's system req's.

That's not a very good reason to switch to Vista. XP "runs smooth with no lag" for the vast majority of PC users.
i wasent giving him a reason to switch

Well, the mang's looking for reasons to use Vista and you replied with some positive info on it, so that may be seen as a reason as to why the OS is good enough to use.
if your gamer go for vista' why? dx10 not just because of graphics but better game support
home premium and media center is so much better than basic, its not even funny.
i personally like vista more than xp just because of a lot of features that comes with the os, saving me a dick load of clicks and typing. i have not had any problems with games compared to xp, virtually same fps in identical settings, sometimes higher in vista, sometimes xp.
Something else not pointed out, that could play a big part in your decision: IF you get vista for dx10, the current low->midrange cards cant really push the dx10 effects that well. If you have an 8800 or 2900, then yes, you will benefit from dx10.
I cant really give an opinion here, my only experience with Vista was on a toshiba laptop with only 512mb ram (sold that way, can you believe it!!). Terrible first impression...
I WOULD SAY IF U ARE NOT GOING TO BUY DX10 GRAPHIC CARD than use XP.
I LOVE VISTA,its great, especialy vistas antivirus and firewall, but i have poor ram and vista EAT IT,so i cant play new games on vista.
4 example Oblivion,FEAR and DiRT are verry laggy on Vista, but on XP they run verry smoothly on max settings.
I also hate compatibility issues and MISSING DRIVERS for some of my devices.Thats why i use xp.But vista is great,if nothing u should try it :p

I've noticed when I got vista that a lot of people that bashed Vista have probably 0 experiance with it. So far I have no problems with any games what so ever. I'm going dx10 mainly for Crysis, they said it would look very nice with dx10.
