Isn't Xfire a gigantic piece of crap?

I can't live without it because I'm addicted to that game tracking feature.

But it's a piece of crap.

First of all, bad interface. I was very happy when Internet Explorer decided to have a conflict with Xfire so now I don't have to scroll down a huge Activity Report to find out what games I have installed. I can't figure out why the hell Xfire informs me every time I start it that I enabled advanced options - it treats me like I'm mentally disabled. Or maybe I am mentally disabled, because I can't figure out the logic behind the order of channels in the channels list. Speaking of which, I'm 100% sure that earlier this afternoon the Xfire Updates channel existed, but after reinstalling this garbage I can't see it anymore. Oh, and it doesn't have an invisible option for the IM client - annoying "friends" ftw! And their site is fugly too, straight out of 2004.

Second, the p2p protocol it's using is a disaster of Roland Emmerich proportions, but without being awesome. Why the **** is it using p2p for every goddamn... thing?! Why am I unable to send files just because my machine is using a slightly different protocol, while classic torrent clients can fix this on the fly?

And why the **** is the updating done ONLY automatically? What is the logic behind this? I have the famous NAT Error 12, which basically locks me out of any updates because... well because. It randomly appears and disappears, and sometimes I wait for weeks before downloading the game list updates. Earlier I could fix it by port forwarding, but lately Xfire decided to be a dick and it's just freakin' stuck there unable to detect my port settings. This could easily be fixed if whoever is in charge of this crap would upload a little installer for us.

I'm really frustrated.

I love Xfire, but I have to agree with some of the things you said. Its not the most intuitive interface.
I still love it though. Its very convenient when I want to take screenshots and track game time. Its useful for my reviews.

Not that I'm discounting your opinion.. everyone has their own experiences.. but mine have been mostly good. I've had some issues with the video capture, but I like that I can take screens and load them on to the site. I have no problems transferring files, messaging your friends in game is quite handy, and the voice chat works really well.. very simple overlay in game thats not intrusive, but you still know who's talking.

I don't care much about the game tracking, tbh.. though I have used it on occasion just to see how long I played a game for :)

I use steam, I love steam and it loves me back. Xfire is a useless piece of bloatware imho. At least steam serves a function beyond being an AIM client and telling me how many hours of my life ive wasted on said game.

Uploading screenshots, videos and talking to friends in-game (Steam does this) and very light on resources. What's so bad about it?
The resource usage jumps quite a bit when Xfire starts to detect games, but you can always skit it. I do that on my laptop. On my desktop, which has a quad core, I don't bother.

I have the same nat error thingy, I spent days trying to fix it but nothing worked. Eventually I just gave up. It's not that big of a deal really, I just can't track the newest games until there's the monthly update but eh... still annoying. Xfire isn't a gigantic piece of crap but it sure is a piece of crap. I still like using it though, if only for the hour tracking feature.

I also havent had any real problems with it. I like that it tracks my games and i can see what other friends are playing and if possible even join in on them with ease.

I have yet to have a single problem with Xfire. @ Coldfire - Did you really just say Xfire is useless bloatware? That is the furthermost thing from the truth.

I love Xfire, I've never ever had a problem with it. I don't use every feature though, but I like it because it tracks my games, lets me IM, browse the internet, and change my music while in game.

I have to agree with that. Steam is just as bloated and it has ads too. Yes, there are some good deals to be had, but its no lite software.

Well STEAM does "feel" better I guess you could say, but it lacks many of Xfire's great features. That is why people who get both win :).

Xfire serves it purpose for me. I use it mostly to have private VoIP with my friends as I play games. I'm not even aware of the majority of the other features, don't really use it.

I love my x-fire. There's something oddly satisfying about knowing how much time I have sunk into a particular game.

So someone gave me the Call of Pripyat code lines for Xfire and it detects the game, but I stumbled upon another bug: the game won't start with Xfire running. Wow, just wow.

It did that before adding it to Xfire btw.

I like Steam, but I'd have to say that Steam is more bloatware than xfire is. I don't have a problem with either app though.

Nope, you are not the only one! I only recently started using Xfire again... I can't remember why I stopped using it in the first place :P The sad thing is, I'm not sure I'll ever beat those 1000+ hours in WoW :S

I dislike Xfire. Fery few people I game online with actually use it, so I prefer Steam. I don't need to know how many hours I spend playing games and I use FRAPS for my screenshots and videos. So I see no reason for me to use Xfire now. I used it like 4 years ago when I was part of a Counter-Strike clan because that was our preferred method of communicating and organizing, but since I stopped playing CS, I stopped using Xfire.

27 days = almost a month solid of Fear 2. Des that not seem like a lot to you? Not saying it's necessarily bad but it's a lot of one game. Most I ever played of one game was like 100 hours.
