I had to stop playing Dead Space 1 cause I got so scared of going around the next corner. Actually stopped for a week and then played it on and off on limited bursts so my heart didn't suffer too many attacks.

I started playing Dead Space 2... the start wasn't that scary so I thought they missed the mood in this one.

I'm up to Chapter 6 and I had to stop again... if I die soon of heart attacks, it was a pleasure knowing you all...

See...depends on each person. Ravenholm was tense but I didn't find it scary. Have you tried playing DS with lights off, headphones...at night....alone?

lol that's funny alright, if I'd describe Ravenholm in one word it'd be either mediocre or awkward there really wasn't anything scary in there, ,you were scared by the appearances :P. DS 1 and 2 aren't really that scary (only thing I found scary in 2 was the part with the small alien kids - kids in horror games scare the **** out of me, like a section in Prey), if you find it too scary just think of in in another way "alien stomp simulator", 1 was a pure AS$ (o_0), 2 is ME combined with AS$ and timed boss fights, there's nothing as enjoyable as stomping the brains out of aliens in DS2.

Yeah I know. I try to look at it as a shooter... but I just can't, it keeps scaring the **** out of me.

I don't know what it is with me and Dead Space.... no other game has scared me so much.

PS: and yes, the kids are just too much... I had to PAUSE the game and leave the room... (I had the speaker on LOUD too so their screams were really awful)

The thing I hate the most are those pop scares, they get me everytime, it's like I know they're coming yet my body still jumps when it happens ... I love it!

Played DI yet? :P Try to play it at 3-5 AM when you're constantly falling asleep, I was scared 6 consecutive times by zombies that tried to munch my face or random dead looking zombies sitting on chairs or tables, grabbing me to show some love, at that point I just Alt + F4ed the h outta there and went to sleep, no game scared me as much in such a short period.

*zzz*

*looks at the monitor*

OMG ZOMBIE, kil it kill it.

Dead zombie, zz OMG it's eating me.

I have yet to understand why people like to be scared. DS1 and 2 are not all that scary, but some games are terrifying and I don't play them for a reason. I don't want to be scared. lol

All the games you guys have mentioned I didn't felt the need to stop playing because of my fear but one game that has made me stop all together is Amnesia: The Dark Descent. I was actually recording a let's play for Youtube but didn't get past the first hour.

It's a nice rush. I can't explain it, but I love being scared. I mean it's no different than roller coaster fanatics (I am one of those as well). Being scared is just a rush.

I haven't found any games really scary. I haven't played Dead Space, but I've played Amnesia, Stalker, and penumbra, and they all haven't scared me very much. Stalker got pretty tense sometimes, but amnesia and penumbra I never found too scary.

Didn't find dead space scary beyond the occasional shock scare much like doom 3. Both games give you a large arsenal of powerful weapons to blast away any enemies with . Games like penumbra and amnesia where you have a weak or no weapons are what I actually find pretty damn terrifying to play amnesia more so then penumbra. Stalker was also pretty terrifying at parts like the under ground labs or when your at night especially with mods that increase the level of mutants and have them respawn so your never safe from attack.

I know what you mean. There's nothing you can do besides crouch in a corner and hope they don't see you. I still remember the first time I played Overture I thought I had blocked the door way with barrels, thinking I was safe.........wrong. I'm trying to figure out how to proceed when I hear growling behind me only to turn around and get mauled by three hellhounds. I literally squealed like a girl from being so surprised and scared.

That's how I finished DS1 to be honest. Lights off, headset on and in a mood to kill everything, my anger actually got me though the whole game in one night (day one release). Just think of them things as an army of your mother-in-law ugly clones - it makes you want to kill them so bad, and not only that but stomp on their freaking heads ...

And I haven't touched it since ... DS2 isn't scary as the first one they say - is that true ?

I like the Mother in Law idea....hahahahahahaha. How the hell do people finish games in one night? I get tired of playing after 1-2 hours.... DS2 didn't seem scary at the start.... but once you get to about Chapter 3....the mood really kicks in (for me anyway)

most horror game si find are 45% scary because of the audio and the gamma. yank the gamma up a few point even if it ruins the inteded visual quality and then go lsiten to something you find mroe relaxing or soothing. for example id listen to say a nice sound track or guildwars nightfall.

Try Amnesia. It's scarier than Dead Space, and as a bonus you don't ever get a weapon to fight back. Hide, run or die. :D

Dead space scary??? naaaahhhhhhh !!!

Good games. Great even. But not scary 1 bit. Jump scares don't count as horror. Your grandmother could give you one of them if she surprised you. not exactly scary

I used to find the game scary at first but after the upgrades in armor and weapons, it became like a Space Marine kinda experience for me, purging alien heretics!!!! One game that truly scared the crap outta me is Fatal Frame 1. Most scary games have you playing an adult male/female bristling with weapons but FF? A small girl in sailor moon outfit with a camera. Alright, great. I lasted all of 2 hours in that game.

I played this on hard, and have hard time keeping my ammo up so I resort to melee. Not a good idea, I get creeped out knowing that Im going to die, but the game it self is not that scary.

I find and enjoy the Psychological aspects of Dead Space. The man beating his skull against a wall only to crack it open when you approach you witness this at 1st by seeing his shadow i believe just to add to it! Its only when you get closer you understand what it is. The voices whispering to Issac the madness encroaching on his sanity. The fact you dont really no what's real any-more. Fantastic Psychological plays in both games. Being an Avid gamer and a player of horror games they are 2 of the best and yeah they can have a scare element to them as well even with the sometimes or often action.

Duno lot of people claim that and i am not sure why Dead Space in particular is a creepy messed up game. Even the start with that brilliant twinkle twinkly little star song sang by a child. I would say it pretty close it just depends if you run through Dead Space 1 or 2 and fail to take in the details! Amnesia makes you look around and makes you feel more vulnerable but Dead Space if listened and watched closely has a degree of underlying sickness.

Have The Simpsons playing loudly with the light on at the same time of playing. Makes the mood much happier. I must admit walking around Arkham Asylum on my own was pretty scary for me. Just to let you know, I'm 23. Yes I know. It's sad that I'm scared of a Batman game,

[QUOTE="Treflis"]Oh you're going to poop bricks later on in Dead Space 2 if you had to stop playing Dead Space 1f22rf
He is playing DS2... I wish I could write about the ending (cuz it would be a spoiler). I still think that there's someting "wrong" to it, something more that eludes the eye. jwsoul you might agree with me..

I know he's playing Dead Space 2, Was just mentioning that a little something later on in the game might have him poop bricks.

Well yes... it is obvious that DS3 will be coming out. I haven't finished Part 2 yet but a friend who has has said the ending is sort of a cliffhanger. Damn, I promised myself I wouldn't play DS2 after I barely got through part 1.... but here I am...

JackBurton

I knew he made another thread about this exact same topic. IDK why he feels the need to make yet another topic on the exact same thing.
