I was just wondering, i want to upgrade a bit my computer.

Right now i have 2 gigs of ram of DDR2 5300. My motherboards says it supports ram up to DDR2 dual channel 8500.

motherboard : http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=ALIVEXFIRE-ESATA2

Question:

Am i better off : A) adding 4 gigs of DDR2 5300 for a total of 6 gigs of ram

B) putting 2 slips of 2 gigs of ram of DDR2 dual channel pc8500 for a total of 4 gigs

What do you guys think ?

What OS do you have? Do you get a lot of "out of memory" errors? I'd go with choice B and sell your current RAM.

generally, and within reason, speed is not as important as amount. if it was a case of getting 2GB of faster memory or 4GB of 5300 then 4GB of 5300..absoluely no question. but, assuming your using it just for games, it might be better to get 4GB of the faster stuff. i dont think any games out at the mo really benefit from 6GB of ram..even under windows 7. so you could sell that stick and put the proceeds towards 4GB of PC8500.

I have 4GBs and I get out of memory errors frequently, but am too broke to get more RAM. IMO, 667MHz is just too slow for RAM for todays demands, so I'd definitely go with the 8500, memory errors or not.
