Alright, I know I've said before I'd get my rig in July, but I cant stand it anymore, so I am either going to order tomorrow, or friday so I need replies ASAP.

I am stuck between 2 rigs because of a small price difference.

These are the specs that both of the builds have that ae the same:

CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-6400C5 - Retail

XFX GS250XYDFC GeForce GTS 250 512MB Core Edition 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

Samsung 2233BW 22IN Widescreen Lcd Monitor Black 1680X1050 5MS 20000:1DC DVI-D Hdcp Vga

Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

BFG Tech GS-550 550W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V V2.8 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply - Retail

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA2 3.5IN 8.5MS 7200RPM 16MB Hard Drive OEM *3YR MFR Warranty*

Lg GH22NS30 Black DVD+RW 22X8X16 DVD-RW 22X6X16 Dl 16X/12X 2MB Sata Oem

Now this is where I get stuck since I'm on a REALLY tight budget

AMD:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 7750 Kuma 2.7GHz Socket AM2+ 95W Dual-Core black edition Processor Model AD775ZWCGHBOX - Retail

ASUS M3A76-CM AM2+/AM2 AMD 760G uATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

Intel:

Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 Wolfdale 2.8GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80571E7400 - Retail

GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

I took these prices from another site so the price difference would be like $30 and BTW im canadian. Could u tell me which one I should get, and yes, I obviously know the Intel would kill that AMD and most AMD for that matter, but this is a really strict budget.

'

Make sure you give me suggestions for the above materials as well. And if you give me a siggestion make sure the suggestion is cheaper so that I cann afford to go with Intel :D pls and thanks.

Sorry some of the links didnt work so just copy and paste to CanadaDirect.com as thats where I am ordering from.

EDIT: I am probably not going to overclock until august or sumin, after I get used to my rig. And after a year I will give it to my dad as a handmedown (without the gpu of course, he doesnt want it).

Thanks for all your help man, till other ppl respond I shall direct all questions to you. I know how to build a rig, although this is my first rig, I have been researching every week for couple of hours at a time on how to build it. Now how do u think I should put it together? Should I put the Optical and HDD drive first THEN the motherboard? Also, should I put everything in the motherboard before I put it in the case? What percent humidity do you think is suffient that I wont have to worry about shocking any of the open circuirt? What should I do to be extra careful (without buying a wrist strap) not to shock anything?

cut back on something I don't care what and you must get a more powerful video card for that res of 1680x1050, you must. Get at least a 4870 1 gig or GTX 260 216. I play at that res and the video card is going to make all the difference. If you can swing it at all possible get the 4890 it is a wonderful, great performing card.

Wth doing that I'll have to have a complete stud of processor and then my video card will be good, which will cause a pretty large bottle neck. Also, people said I can get almost all games maxed with the exception of a few. And even if I cant I can stand high, or even lowering the resolution to play max. Thanks for the help though.

Just so i can show my desperation i shall show u what I am on right now. I dont use this one for gaming tho, my bro hass a pretty good laptop, and I can play WoW maxed on it, but thats all.

Old Specs:

CPU - Intel Celeron R Single Core 3.07GHz

Motherboard- some really bad one, I didnt bother to check

RAM- 0.99GB of RAM (or 1GB)

GPU- Integrated Intel Family Chipset 128mb

Monitor- 19" Viewsonic (probably the best part of my computer)

everything else is generic, but u get my point

The DDR2-800 is NOT compatible with the AM2+ CPU, you would have to overclock the RAM to 1066 in order for that to work I would personally go with an Athlon X2 5200+ AM2 CPU with that mobo and save the extra cash. I realize that in terms of performance the C2D kills the Athlon, but neither one will bottleneck the GPU and its literally half the price If you are dead set on an Intel rig, great, but I think you get a better bang for your buck with the AMD setup

I would go with the e7400 and gigabyte mobo. You will be happy with that, and once you learn how to overclock then you will be even happier. The rest of your system looks good. You can always save up for a better video card down the road when you get more money, but that gts 250 will handle most games just fine on max settings. Crysis will definitely be the exception and maybe just a couple others.

When I build, first thing I do is take out the motherboard and set it on a wooden table. Then I install the cpu and cpu fan, read the instructions and take your time on this one. Then screw the standoffs into the case, swap the I/O shield on the back of the case, then screw the motherboard into the case. Then screw in the power supply. Then install the components into your case, hd, dvd, ram, gpu, then hook it all up to the power supply and mobo and you're good to go. If you're not using a wrist strap (don't worry I never have), just be sure to periodically touch the side of your case to get rid of any static electricity you may have built up.

alright diffman thanks for the help, I was planning on doing that anyways, but I was gonna put the ram sticks in before I put the motherboaard on the standoffs. And this is my first rig... kinda overwhelmed and nervous that i might mess something up :P I think I should be fine, I did enough homework for this :)

Also, if you can swing it, get a hard drive with a 32mb cache. The one you have listed only has a 16mb cache. The 32mb cache hard drive I have now is just as fast as my older RAID 0 setup.

You can put the ram in anytime, no big deal. I just do it near the end so it's not in the way when I'm messing with all the cables and stuff. But yeah it's legos really, not hard at all. The only thing you have to worry about is getting a component that is DOA, I've never had it happen to me before but I can't think of anything worse when building a computer for the first time. Good luck and enjoy your custom PC!

The guy that said that DDR2 800 ram is NOT supported by the AM2+ board should check the specs on ASUS site for compatability, here are the specs and the DDR2 800 ram will work,,, all it means is that unless it is at least an AM2+ board it wont support DDR2 1600 4 x 240-pin DIMM, Max. 8 GB, DDR2 1066/800/667/533 ECC,Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory Dual Channel memory architecture * DDR2 1066 is supported by AM2+ ,

Sporknife

this is true, you don't NEED a better card but you will be running a 1680x1050 res. That is a very nice res that card will be at its peak with this res. A simple increase to a GTX 260 CORE 216 or 4870 1 gig will give you max on every game plus AA. You will not be bottle necked by your processor. I can't let this go, if you get that 250 you may as well as just get a 1440x900 monitor. The extra vram will help drastically with AA at those resolutions, I don't care what you heard on this. The video card is the heart of a gaming computer.

I max most games with my rig(its in my sig) of 4gb ram, 8800gt, and e8500....
