[QUOTE="fireandcloud"]you had a pretty good card and then you replaced it with a card that performs about the same and now you're wondering why it's not running faster? O_ofireandcloud

I'm wondering why it runs slower. I replaced it because I wanted the ATI in another PC.

well, i'm sure the 8800gts will perform better on some games and the 2900xt will run better on other games. they're about the same in terms of overall performance, so you shouldn't expect better performance necessarily.

I defenitevely shouldn't expect worst performance on Crysis.

why not? they're almost equal to each other in overall performance. some games the 2900xt will do better on; some games the 8800gts will do better on. it just may be that the 2900xt does a better job with crysis than does the 8800gts. two examples of 2900xt outperforming the 8800gts (unfortunately, this chart doesn't have crysis performance comparison):

ah, ok, i've seen some other comparisons, and on those comparisons the 8800gts does outperform the 2900xt on crysis. i dunno what to tell ya. this isn't always an exact science. you got all these parts made by different manufacturers and getting the best performance often involves mixing and matching the parts together and hoping for the best. i wouldn't worry too much about it if performance is not all that different between the two cards.

Whatever helps you sleep at night bro. Just got done playing at a 24/24 2Fort, ~59 FPS Average w/ Vsync and 16xQAA, 16x AF, and Very High Texture Quality. Game is pretty good looking. Enjoy playing with...whatever you play with.

It looks to me its still the power supply. Get the card to a friend's PC with a decent Power Supply. Try Crysis there. If it is running good, get a New power Supply...

For my resolution the ATI should play TF2 better then (1440 by 900). But I can still play it great with the Nvidia.

I don't think it's the power supply, but maybe I'll try to put in a friend's PC.

I'm not sure, but trust me, it shouldn't be that. All I know it's the Volts 240 V, 12 A. Does it help?

@ The_PC_Gamer: What's the big differnce between reatil parts and OEM?

The_PC_Gamer

OEM parts are cheaper, and are usually refurbished. And retail parts are straight out of the box, new and retail. There isnt any major difference, except sometimes companies will rip you off by pretending to sell you retail parts while actually giving you manufacturer's refurbished ones.

and are usually refurbished ??? damn where in gods name did you get that idear ???.....

Oem is just no box and no extra game and fancy manual......

refurbished.......you made me laugh

Nope, need the Watts, open your case and look at the side of the PowerSupply, it is really not that hard.

A 7800GTS can max Portal with 16x AF and 16x AA with over 60 FPS. You didn't properly install the drivers, or remove the last drivers. Also could have something to do with your processor or RAM.GodLovesDead

Fixed.

A 7800 can easly run Valve source games at 1600x1200, totally maxed out, at pushing upto 100fps. I haven't even bothered to check my framerates with my 8800, but I'd be surprised if they were below 80 - especially in a game taking place in confined spaces like Portal.

It could be your PSU however it can also be your drivers since first you had ATI drivers installed now you got NVIDIA drivers on the same system but also your 2900XT will play some games better esp if you have 1GB model compared to your 8800GTS which only has 512MB but if you have 512MB 2900XT then it could be just some games are optimized for ATI products more

Ok, first I think you should know that the previous card had tow plugs connected to it and now this has only got one plug. Sorry I can't find the Watts, I've literally put my head in the computer.

You NEED to figure out how many Watts the PSU has. There should be a sticker on the side of it that lists all the information. Find out the watts, and how many amps it has on the 12v rail. There should be one or two ratings for the 12v.

It's very likely that your PSU can't handle the new card and it is being underpowered because it's not getting enough juice. You can't just assume everything's fine and that the PSU isn't the problem. This should have been one of the first things you considered when upgrading to a new card.

There's no other text at all? Just a big-ass sticker with that little bit of info? That doesn't make any sense.

You don't have a big sticker like this one?

If you don't, I'm not sure how we can find out that information. How old do you think it is? You might be better off getting a new one all together.

Isn't 12 amps far too low? Doesn't it need something like 22amps on the 12volt rail?

Those Comparissons are irrelevant. He has the XFX 8800GTS 512MB. It is the G92 model which is much faster than the 8800GTS 640MB which uses the G80.
8800GTS 512MB has 650Mhz Core clock and 1940Mhz Memory Clock while the 8800GTS 640MB has 500Mhz Core Clock and 1600Mhz Memory Clocks.

If the G92 GTS is doing worse than the 2900XT, then there's definately a problem.

The problem's apparently solved now. Apparentlyi t was the AntiVirus that was blocking something when I downloaded the drivers. Well all I did was turn off the AntiVirus and download the drivers and install them again. Apparently it was this. Tadaa.
