By that logic you also don't need your computer.

Spike1988

i think your logic needs counseling

Hahaha dude you don't get it. Why would you need your computer when you don't need it? ('Why would I need to overclock when I don't need to'). That sentence makes no sense right? If you can't see how that sentence is wrong then there's no hope for you lol.

It's called a paradox, smarty pants.

i kind of get what hes trying to say. Its not necessary for him to overclock his cpu, since it won't make a difference. Anyhow ivybridge is sandy bridge 1.05....a 5% increase. Not worth it for most people but still cool either way.

Alright Alright.... we get it.... evildead made a typo or mistake or whatever you want to call it.... I think we can end this topic before someone gets a tos violation. There is no reason to keep pushing him since we all know what he meant and KNOW he is right in not needing to overclock his pc. Overclocking isn't right for everyone in every situation and to think you need to overclock all the time is a fallacy that goes far beyond any mistake evildead ever made. Thanks for the replies though!

I would say a Asus Z68 Gen 3 board or a MSI Z68-GD65 Gen 3 board those 2 are really good from reading the reviews. Hekynn

It will basically be $20 more, have PCI-E 3.0, use less power, be slightly faster and have a better IGP ( should you accidentally OC your GPU too far and are stuck with it for a few weeks...it might come in handy ).

I'd wait.

When did they change it? I haven't been on the boards for at least 8 months. Under the old tos if you even looked at someone the wrong way the hammer was coming down.

Wow, so it was fairly recent... I think the flaming is crazy, but the old tos didn't allow any way to really defend yourself so I hope they can find a nice middle ground on that. Making most curse words ok (most words that is) is alright with me considering that most of us know exactly what was meant with the ****. Anyway I guess it is a little old news for you guys haha.

[QUOTE="MonsieurX"]Most likely not worth the wait, imo. You can't switch from integrated to the gpu unless you always switch out the cable from the gpu to the mobo... Microcenter,if you have one nearby

Virtu will switch it for you. My current motherboard doesn't have the video outputs but I still use the integrated graphics when connected to my graphics card. With any type of video conversion or low end games, I use the integrated graphics on the CPU because for conversion it is faster than my two 6950's and for low end games it puts my graphic cards in idle unless I'm using them for a different task. Some people say it's a gimmick, but if you can cut down video conversion times, then it's not just some gimmick.

What's your point i don't overclock properly, lol , you don't even know me.

Turbo boost is not even considered overclocking, thats what he meant.

Turbo is overclocking made simple. There's also TPU for Asus users. These are just safer methods of overclocking for people who don't feel like destroying their motherboard in the attempt of increasing performance. All I use is TPU and XMP for my RAM and I can get 4.3GHz no problem. So long as it's over stock, it's still overclocking. The "experts" are just annoyed that this ability is no longer exclusive to them.

Why would a expert be annoyed, when you get a 500Mhz boost at most? Most of the time 500Mhz is the minimum experts look at.

I get 600Mhz boost through turbo and 1.2Ghz boost through TPU. Those are well in the area of current overclocking ranges.

Yeah I do it the good old fashioned way, but auto overclocks, (especially Asus's smart OC feature), can now OC to the point where they're basically on par with doing it manually. However they almost never have the voltage tweaked to the optimum level. Generally the vcore is a little higher than it needs to be and you'll get higher temps because of it. Nothing wrong with Auto overclocking though.

I think all Asus does is create overclocking profiles in the BIOS on each board for each supported CPU. I believe this because before my last BIOS update, TPU would only overclock my 2500K to 4.2Ghz. I'm guessing the overclocking method used in their software such as Turbo-V EVO, does it step by step to ensure that the temps do not go beyond what the cooler can handle, whereas TPU simply recommends using an enthusiast type cooling solution.

Since Ivy is just a few months away I would recommend waiting for it. Your PII will hold up just fine till it comes out.

wait it out, wait untill games dip below 60 fps average in most games no matter what kind of gpu you have. Don't base your choice on RTS games since they are really cpu heavy. I think you'll be fine with your cpu for another 3 to 4 years. Unless of course you have an itch to upgrade.

I agree with that for the most part, my main gaming computer uses a 1055t and I plan on waiting until haswell or broadwell before I do a complete rebuild... haha this system is barely a year and a half old. Just for an update to my original post.... my brothers decided to wait it out for ivy and I don't blame them since it will be around $225 for the 3570k (2500k ivy) plus the next gen of video cards are just around the corner.

I'm getting really tired of having to spell this out: New ToU =|= It's okay to flame everyone around you if they disagree with you. Though if you want repercussions, we'll be happy to start bringing in repercussions, all across the board. Just let me know... I'll be here all night. ;) EDIT: The majority of this thread has remained civilized and constructive, so I'm leaving it open. For now.

I am looking to build a new gaming rig for my brothers and have two main concerns: 1. Is ivy bridge really worth the 3-4 month wait or are we just looking at a little less power draw? 2. I want this computer to use the sandy's/ivy's integrated gpu when he isn't gaming to cut power consumption so what motherboard under $150 will support this.... since I know many don't? Dual pcie isn't a deal breaker... but it would be a plus. Finally.... does anyone know a cheaper place than newegg (and order online..) to pick up a 2500k if I go the sandy route?

Show them the official ASUS link and P8P67 Rev 3.0's BIOS version 2001 update.

On P8P67 Rev 3.0's BIOS update page

ASUS Maximus IV Extreme (Intel P67 chipset) Rev 3.0 also has BIOS 2001 version update i.e. support for Intel Ivybridge.

Some level 1 support can't even follow the company's official docs.
