Jane Jensen, the writer of Gabriel Knight and Grey matter has started a Kickstarter campaign with an interesting model. Read more over here:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1005365109/jane-jensens-pinkerton-road-2012-2013-csg

Funding adventure games via Kickstarter is really becoming a trend. I think Jensen is a great writer, that's why I'm backing the project myself.

I heard great things about Gabriel Knight but I never played it myself. Although, I have played Grey Matter and I thought that was a wonderful game. I will pledge to this project.

Good to hear. You can get the Gabriel Knight games on www.gog.com. Played through 1 and 2 not too long ago. While 1 is a very traditional adventure, 2 is probably one of the few good FMV games.

I tend to pay for games after they're made.

You're pledging not paying. If the project isn't funded by may 19th then you don't pay. Also, you get the game from the $15 pledge.

Gabriel Knight 1 is up there with the Monkey Island games, in my opinion. They're definitely not as funny or charming, but they're really well-designed with some very interesting mysteries to boot.

Count me in on this one.

She's to me the greatest storyteller videogame industry ever had. Pledged 110 dollars, the empress of adventure genre is worth this kind of support :)

Hopefully this won't mean more cats and moustaches puzzles... This is probably one of the few kickstarter projects which I'm not interested in... And I like adventure games!

Are we finally looking at the revival of classic PC gaming? :o

I was hesitant at first, but it starts to look that way. Both the indie movement (see Legend of Grimrock) and Kickstarter have a part in this.

I love Jane Jensen, the Gabriel Knight series was amazing and Gray Matter is the first good Point and Click adventure game I've played in a really long time. I'm definitely going to pledge for this one.

How can you like adventure games and not be interested in a kickstarter that can fund multiple games from one of the biggest legends of that genre?

Also, as hilariously bad as that puzzle was, it wasn't her who designed it. They had to cut one of her complex puzzles and the team need something to replace it quicly, thus the infamous mustache puzzle was born.

Yesterday when I first saw it: they had 45 thousand. Now: almost 68!!

Kickstarter just discovered a HUGE potential lying dormant in the community. I myself am astounded! I guess it's not just me and another one here and there who really misses the good old games (no pun intended with gog.com).

Gamers of the world, congrats are in order!

EDIT: I said almost 68? Well, 68 it is now. In just a few seconds!! :D

I don't have much trust in jensen, never played gabriel knight and still waiting for some time to get into gray matter. But what the heck, this is another step foward to reviving puzzle adventure genre on the pc and indie genre.

I love adventures and I think the first Gabriel Knight was great. It's just that I'm much more interested in Tim Schafer's project and I think that Jane Jensen's last game was kind of a fail, wasn't it?

This is good news. Jane Jensen is one of the best writers in the whole industry, and I enjoyed every game she has made so far.

Her experience making Gray Matter is part of the reason she's started this studio. From GameSpot's interview: [quote="GameSpot"]GS: What are your thoughts concerning Gray Matter 1? JJ: It was a different kind of process for me. I had the script for that game. And basically it was developed by a German publisher, and the development team was originally Czech, and then it moved to Paris. And I was working full time at Oberon at the time, so I had a limited amount of time to really spend on that project. And towards the end, they kind of ran out of time and money and were just trying to get the game out. I'm very proud of that game; I think it's a good game, but part of the impetus behind this new studio is I want to make sure I have control over the production. And that I can make sure the games have the quality that I really want to see them have. So the story is not sort of marred by production flaws. I didn't have as much oversight on the project as I would have liked to have had.

She's being diplomatic, but it's easy to read between the lines. Full interview is here: http://www.gamespot.com/news/gabriel-knight-designer-launches-pinkerton-road-6369623

Indeed. I just hate when devs trash their former games while promising that everything will be better next time. She just made an honest analysis.

News: The backers of the project can vote how interested they are in the three projects. As a backer, you get a nice concept PDF file, then you can go fill out a survey. I love to take part in the project that early on.

Thanks for the info. Might be a good time to pick it up for everyone who didn't yet.

The voting has ended for the Pinkerton project. Moebius won, so that will be the first project.

They've hit $440k total with Kickstarter and Paypal. People can can still donate directly at Jane's website and have access to all the kickstarter reward tiers through May 25! After this date some of the cool reward goodies may not be available. http://pinkertonroad.com/join-csg/ Just $10k more for 1000 lines of extra dialogue and music recorded with live orchestra.
