Just bought a 144 hz Asus monitor. Will it make a difference over 60 hz?

I just bought a 165 hz Asus monitor to replace my 1440p 60 hz Asus model. Will i fight better now in games like F.E.A.R, Doom 3 and Half life 2?

Will replacing a regular car with a sports car will make you a better driver? no, you will enjoy it more (if you have the horsepower to run games at 100+fps) but it won't make you win more while gaming.

Go and find out. I'm still stuck in 60 Hz myself.

Will it be smoother and a tiny tiny bit easier to aim? Maybe. Will it just outright make you fight better? No. Most of people who gain from a higher refresh rate are competition players. The rest of us just notice smoother gameplay.

It is amazing. Just bought a slightly larger 144hz monitor, huge difference imo (was at 60hz previously). Very good investment. Everything is just smoooooth as can be. Just don't do what I did and forget to get dual-DVI hookup (or whatever it is called).

You want the second one in the picture; if you're like me and had your old monitor for years, you might have the first one. Woops had no idea that picture would be so big.

@mrbojangles25: I have a similar monitor but I get a buzzing sound unless I turn on V-sync. Any ideas why it can be?

Some monitor don't know what to do with the extra frames they get so the result is that the excess signal goes to the speakers of the monitor. If it doesn't have a speaker, then ignore my explanation.

@yonyz: It does have speakers, it must be that. But it wouldn't harm the monitor now would it?

I still use a 60 hz LG 1080p monitor. I like it so much i havent really bothered getting a new monitor yet. There is though a big difference from 60 to 120-144hz i heard and once you switch you cannot go back to 60 hz ever...

Another thing holding me back is im not sure if i want to stick with 16:9 or move to ultrawide. Some games may be amazing in ultrawide, yet my older games probably wouldn't run in that res.

Got my monitor and have used it for two hours. I do much better in games now. I bearly have to use slow mo in F.E.A.R now. Overall this was a very impressive experience. I will never go back to 60 hz ever again.

Send it back! Quick! It'll forever ruin other 60hz panels. They'll look choppy as sin. Beware the butteryness of those high refresh rates! If you can push those frames, anyway.

I just updated to 1440p G- Sync 144hz monitor. I'll sell a kidney before I go back to 1080p. I love it.
