You didn't read the instructions did you? Before you install the card you need to install the drivers. Put the cord back to where it was and then install the cd that came with it. THEN the card will work.

Then how do people without an onboard video chip set up their machines? A very basic graphics driver is hardwired into all video cards, he should be able to see what he's doing at least. Won't be playing any games until he installs the drivers, but he should be able to see his system booting up and all.

To the thread creator, did you just move off an onboard video card? If so, have you tried switching back to it and seeing if your machine works that way?

Ok let me see if i get this. Is your monitor tuned to an Analog connection instead of a digital connection of which it may be hooked up to? Basically are you using any different cables than you did before? (i.e. VGA/DVI Cables.)

I'd just like to add, if you're replacing another card that was already in the system, make sure you un-install the old drivers first and foremost. Having both sets of drivers on the same system (although rare) can cause issues. When they do, it's a pain to fix. As Rayven pointed out, you'll still get some display w/o the drivers, so don't worry.

Also, be wary of ESD (static charge from you fingers to the card, basically. Like when you touch a light switch after shuffling across the carpet. That's instant death to hardware. Just keep your hand on the power supply.)

I'm kinda confused here. For clarity, are you saying the when you plug the monitor into the onboard (mothert board) connection you get a display but when you plug it into the video card, no display? If so, what type of Power Supply do you have? It may not be providing enough power.
