Well, i just bought TF2, i installed it, updated. Then i start it up and it goes to a loading screen with a medic a spy and a heavy then the game closes.It says i have to have Directx 8.

My video card drivers are up to date, and i have Directx 9.0c installed.

I can run Gmod10(just got done playing that, it came with TF2), HL2, CS:S.

Also I was in dxdiag in run and i went to the direct x tests and it passed Directx 7,8, and 9.

it probably dosent, its like a Geforce 2 (LMAO).

How much would a DX8 or DX9 card cost me and what should i get? I have like 110 bucks but 65 is going towards GTAIV.

I have a presario6000 btw.

I'd rather spend the money you have on the GPU, since GTA4 is going to suck abysmally as well if you are only running a geforce 2. Besides I think getting the card and enjoying TF2 is a worthwhile investment, even if it means you have to wait a little longer to be able to afford GTA4.

Your best bet is looking for a used AGP 6600GT or 6800GT on Craigslist. If you're lucky you can find one in your price range.

well like the guy above said, 6800 is your best bet. But if I where you, I would start saving money for a pc. Not to say screw the car, that would be silly. but you really,really, need to upgrade. But your not to bad off, my friend has a computer from the 90's...yea. less then 200 hertz chip. He makes me cry when he complaines about it not working.

I might get my grandpas computer, he has a pretty nice one and he doesnt even use it so im getting it this weekend possibly.

would that get the job done? Im not too much of a pc gamer, so buying a new pc isnt really a good option for me. I just play CS 1.6 and if i can get it to work TF2. Then other than that all i need a pc for is AIM and the internet.

god no! that card is horrible, no matter how your look at it. The absolute minimum I would go for is a 7600gs.

If you can afford to even spend a little more, you'd be better off with this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131227

You'll still proabbly have to play at best medium settings at a low resolution, but it should still be better than most GeForceFX cards. The FX series was Nvidia's first attempt at DirectX 9 cards, and it was a miserable failure.

It would do it, but I would seriously look at buying a used card. That way you'd get a better card for less money.

get the 3850HD, theres a AGP version of it and its a card that rivals the 8600 so id say its a great choice, it should be around 120-150$ i think

The newest Source engine games (Episode 2, Portal, and TF2) require Dx9 capable cards iirc. There was a point in Episode 2 where those with Dx8 cards could not pass iirc.

A Geforce 7600 would be a good card for under 100 dollars.

car > new computer

car = mode of transport

transportation = new and greater job possibilites

job = more money

more money = new computer

Get your car, THEN get a new PC! And dump the 360 lol. 60 dollars for a new game is why you cant buy a new PC/car

Keep saving for your car. Continue using you comp for CSS and internet/aim. Use Xbox for your gaming needs, as I can see in your sig that you already have Orange Box (TF2).

Boj: Considering that you need a comp in the range 1500$ (Monitor, keyboard, OS etc etc) to run highest settings for most games, as where you can get 400ish$ Xbos, 10 extra dollars for a game doesnt seem that bad.

Ok yeah don't listen to the people who are recommending you 9600 or the fx equivlent.. You should go no lower then a 7600 or radeon equivlent which ironically enough isn't much more expensive then the 9600, and many times powerful.

touche.

still, I think in the longrun the PC is as inexpensive as the 360 is, and if it is more expensive then the quality is worth it.

But, thats just opinion on my part.

I agree on the second part. PC's quality is definetly better and makes the expenses reasonable :)
