Yeah, it's great. You can also tell that the creators ran out of money when it came to making the cutscenes.

it seems surprising, I had it written off as another boring console game... Guess I was wrong.

I think so. I've not really noticed it in general though. Except when it comes to using your grapple, and that would just be crazy difficult without auto-aim.

does the full game still have negative mouse acceleration? i played the demo and the its lack of perfect 1:1 mouse movement made me turn to using the 360 controller Its not an issue if it still has it I'll just play it using my 360 controller.

Its a fun game, but could be alot better. Looks good and handles well, lots to do, but the story and cut scenes are meh.

Soooo much better then Just Cause 1 though which i hated.

Just Cause 1 = 1/10

Just Cause 2 = 7.5 or 8/10

for me personally

Stop playing games.

Oh come on now. Just because one game it did not impress one person, that means he has to stop playing games? Come on, dont tell me you never played a game that everyone thought it was great and at some point you lost all interest.

Not yet but it looks far better than the console versions and i mean far better and people who have played the game said that the control on consoles is not as soild as other games and the mouse aim in the pc version helps alot with the grappling hook.

It is pretty good.

Can't say I am liking it as much as Red Faction Guerrilla as far as action sandbox games go yet; mainly because of the combat and hell, to be honest - it is less chaotic crazy.

I think that sums up my view. The game is a lot of fun, but it could really do with some tightening up in places (vehicle controls at lower frame rates, an altimeter for aircraft, buying weapons...). None of that spoils the game, though.

That's interesting about the price. The game wasn't even on my radar until I saw it on sale for $32.99 US on Newegg on an e-mail ad and I had to buy it for that price. Glad I did.

The map is just plain huge in Just Cause 2. Anyone could spend hours just driving any of the 100 vehicles in this game to explore each mile of the map.

If the whole game is like the demo, then I could never buy it. I need some direction in my games. Wandering around wrecklessly is ok for optional game material, but not as the main premise for an entire game.

that's because there mountains everywhere blocking your path so the actual amount of playable space is much smaller.

More like taking part of the available walking/driving space. But i do honestly think that san andreas has a far bigger map. I could memorise both far cry 2 maps and all locations but not san andreas.

Please dont post this...there are some wierd choices here and I dont trust it fully since they took a third of WoWs world for example since they do not show Outlands and Northrend. Also Paradise being so big makes me think that ingame size has nothing to do with real world size, who knew...

- I loved auto-aim, or else it would be too hard and annoying - Vehicle control was perfect for me... I hated GTA4s one... - Mouse smoothing/acceleration: I had no problems at all.

A friend of mine gifted it to me. In less than a week, I've already racked up 15 hours of gameplay. The story's nothing to write home about, and something sounds WRONG about those accents. (Bolo Santosi, anyone?) The missions also feel a bit like copy/paste jobs with some altered details. But I still play the hell out of it. Why? I just love slinging around with the grapple and parachute, tying people to things not much unlike how I played Rocket Jockey years ago (without the rocket bikes, anyway), hijacking helicopters with the help of said grapple, and generally just doing all sorts of over-the-top crazy things. Now imagine if that multiplayer mod actually gets to a workable state and we can do all this with online co-op... Regarding mouse handling, the default sensitivity value of 50 killed my ability to make subtle aim refinements (crosshair jumped several pixels, which isn't good if you need to line up a distant headshot), so I dropped it to 10...and then found that even with my G500 on the full 5700 DPI, the view panned around way too slowly. Sensitivity at 25 on both axes feels just about right. As for vehicle controls, I found them acceptable, with the one glaring exception being that planes have no yaw/rudder control whatsoever, which makes lining up shots even more difficult than usual. Speaking of which, armed planes aren't of much use due to the speed which they travel at and the range of your weapons-you have about a second or two to strafe a ground target and pull away before you crash. Attack helicopters are much more useful in that regard. You want bad car handling? Play Saints Row 2 and try NOT to oversteer constantly. Just a quick tap of a key will have the car lurch several degrees in one direction, and the sensitivity curve on the X360 pad twiddlystick isn't much better. GTA IV, on the other hand, may have been going for a more realistic handling approach, but I just don't feel like I have that great of control over the car, even compared to something like Richard Burns Rally and its brutal, unforgiving driving physics engine. It's good enough where I don't feel like I need to reach for the X360 pad, and the only other recent sandbox title release I can say that for is Red Faction: Guerrilla. Another important note: optimization. GTA IV and SR2 don't really have any. RF:G is hard on hardware, but seems to run with a smoother, if not necessarily higher, framerate than the aforementioned two, plus I'm a bit more lenient on it due to how much stress the physics engine must add with all the things you can blow to pieces. JC2, with appropriate settings adjustments (GPU Water Simulation off, for starters), runs beautifully smooth on my system, even if the 8800 GT is cited as more of a minimum requirement-and those with faster graphics cards seem to get a good rise in framerates and playable settings as well. It's very well optimized for once given the trend with sandbox action games that also have console releases. If you're running XP, however, you can forget about all that, because the PC version REQUIRES DX10 and thus Vista or Win7. (But who would have a JC2-grade PC and run XP as a main OS?) In short, if you're looking for a compelling plot, realism, or XP compatibility, move along-this isn't your game. But if you just want some over-the-top fun with no real regard for story and want to sling around being a total badass, then you can't go wrong with Just Cause 2. (Especially if it goes on sale for dirt cheap like the other titles.) (P.S.: I never played Just Cause 1 and don't really have any interest in it.)

^ Nice review.

I'm loving this game...nearly 70 hours in. The developers gave you a world to run (or drive, or fly) around in and have fun. The game delivers fun in spades. It's not perfect, but I'm having so much fun with it I don't care about the minor shortcomings.

exactly, the game is just so insanely fun

and when you get tired of blowing stuff up, just open up your 'chute and slingshot around the island for a bit...very relaxing.

It is but the game is so restrictive you barely us 60% of it, but some games don't have the real values.

I'll also use square miles.

GTA 3 - 5.76

GTA SA - 13.9

Oblivion - 16

Farcry 2 - 31

WoW - there isn't a reported official value only estimates and I don't really trust those because nobody actually bothered to measure it all

Burnout Paradise - 26 (we are talking about the game world here not streets, maybe you should tell that to the one that made it possible for you to post that image, devious742)

Just Cause 2 - 400

Test Drive Unlimited - 597

etc

Anyway JC 2 is huge there's no denying it :P. Still it isn't the biggest game of the year, Test Drive 2 is, Oahu (597) + Ibiza (220.5).

wow are you sure the analogy is right, because far cry 2 did not seem that big to me.dakan45

That's only the first map of Far Cry 2, so it's twice as big as in the picture.

Please dont post this...there are some wierd choices here and I dont trust it fully since they took a third of WoWs world for example since they do not show Outlands and Northrend. Also Paradise being so big makes me think that ingame size has nothing to do with real world size, who knew...rzepak
In Paradise you're generally traveling at something like 150mph - if you could travel that fast consistently it wouldn't take very long to cross the other game worlds' maps. though yeah, GTASA feels kind of funny there. I guess the cars didn't actually travel all that fast and there was enough traffic to make it hard to keep that kind of speed for any length of time.
