I enjoyed it, but the gameplay felt lacking. I'm gonna buy the sequel but I don't feel that ME's gameplay is the reason more because of the story. Has anybody else played the game and felt this way?Ace_WondersX
The cover system was really bad, but the story was great.
I think Bioware gets more credit than they deserve. Don't get me wrong great game, but I was expecting a few weeks worth of game-play and when I finished it in a week, it felt short. Bioware games KOTOR 1 and 2, now ME have a grand feel to them, but Bioware seems to break everything down into small sections that feel like your just lead down a path, not go were you please type of game-play.

I'm the opposite - I liked the combat and general gameplay, but felt that the characters and story were rather weak.

Bioware didn't make KOTOR 2.

Yeppers.....Obsidian made KOTOR 2.
As for Mass Effect -
Perhaps when the downloadable contect comes out, it'll spice things up a bit....

Yea, the cover system detracted from my enjoyment of the game and the story while intruiging, came out with only one ending
I really liked the combat.RK-Mara
Same. I hate turn based RPGs. Only one I could stand was Fallout series because it required some thought on how you used your AP meter. And the cover system wasn't bad, better then GTA 4 if you ask me.
Mass Effect 2 needs to adress a few issues:
Fix the cover system. It's not horrible, but it's clunky.
More freedom to explore
Longer main quest (more planets)
A more non-linear path to goals
More interesting/likable squad mates. Garrus, Tali, and Wrex were the only memorable ones, IMO.

to me, the cover system is horrible. It shouldn't be forced. it constantly interfers the flow of combat, and we should be able to decide for ourselves whether we're going to cover or not.
another thing needs to be fixed -- must-drop loots or limited inventory size -- pick one. either go back to the conventional RPG route (we get to decide whether we want the loots!) or go the JRPG route = unlimited inventory, and then they can drop anything and everything after combat.
as for the next two to become great RPGs...I don't see it happen since they'll only be the middle and conclusion of a Hollywoodish trilogy.
