I just recieved this card

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130085

and I was wondering if it would be worth overclocking? and if so can anyone appoint me to a good refrence on the process of overclocking?

Also,

Since I got this card, any game I start up that uses the hl2 gaming engine, always starts up in ethier directx 8 or directx 8.1 and I was wondering why does it do this considering my card is directx 9?

EX:

^ an example, it does the same in all the other games.

Also, I was told by someone i could max out counter strike source, with high fps, but with max settings I see a lot of discoloration, and I get around 50fps(I really dont know if he considered that to be high)

Thanks for your time and help

No, its not really worth overclocking. You do know that the ati hd 4670 knocks the 8600gt out of the water?

I have a i think 350 psu, and I'm not sure if its worth upgrading the one my dell currently has.

also the -dxlevel 90 works

but I'm just wondering why it does that

dell usually makes it imposible to change anything, but if you want to get more powerful cards id sugests getting a new PSU, and if it wont fit in the dell case buy a new case, although CS source isnt a high end game anyway so maxing it isnt where id set the bar for a new video card

my advice is to not overclock. I've always thought overclocking is a rather novel activity anyway. It's all psychological. You can get much better results from tweaking the card's settings. What I ALWAYS do with cards is let the application decide and put the settings that I can on low.Its a pc so its never going to run perfect.

The hd 4670 runs well on a 300 watt power supply, and it is close to the nvidia 9600gt, so that isnt very bad for $80. If you can, I recommend you buy that, I had an 8600gt, and the performance was terrible in newer games.

No CSS isnt my benchmark for knowing if the system is good.

Its just one of the only games i have to even test it out on.

I think I'll just measure out the psu, and update it, because I'd really like to get the radeon HD 4750(or w/e the number combanition is)

I just gotta wait for cash to free up. I dont wanna upgrade the case cause, I'm not really sure I'd even be able to get it back together. But yea this card choice was a recommendation, not to have hte best gaming, but on a budget and what i could work with.
