well i finally found out that the video card in my sisters computer was just dead (6600gt). thanks to those of you who tried to help in my earlier posts. anyway, i got a new video card to replace it and this time i went with ATI just for the hell of it.

i got an ATI radeon x1300. its agp and has 512mb. its also factory overclocked to 600mhz. i didnt have much to choose from since my dad refused to buy online and made me go to bestbuy. i'd say i made a good choice though. it has a nice copper/aluminum heatsink with a fan and its pretty quiet. i havent done any tweaking yet. i'm planning on tweaking the whole system later to i'll mess around with the catalyst stuff later.

did i make the right choice?

The X1300 Pro (only AGP version of the X1300 I know of) is slower than a 6600GT - that 512MB of video RAM isn't going to help either, unless you're doing graphic design on twin 24" monitors.

The pro is the one clocked to 600mhz core, regular is 450mhz. Either of which are still slower than a 6600GT. http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=476&card2=190

Take it back and try to get a card like a 7600 gt or x1950pro (the agp flavor). Search around your city/town and try to find a store that focuses solely on computer hardware.

this is the one:

i dont see how a 128mb agp 6600gt can be better than that. i'm also kinda on a budget. the 7900s and other high end cards were starting at $300.

Because 512mb of ram is utterly useless at the low resolutions it will only be able to play new games at.

Never assumed you were, bu that doesn't change the fact that the X1300 is slower than what you replaced it with.
