My system specs are E4400 CPU, 2GB gskill ram, Asus 4850, and Corsair 450vx psu.

Anyways I tried call of duty on 1680x1050, with everything on high (textures on high not extra), and I'm getting around 15-25 fps on average.

I was wondering what would be the best upgrade.. should I get 2 more sticks of ram, or should I get a new CPU?

Would xp even recognize 4gb of ram?

Thanks

Is your CPU running at stock speed? OC it, and I would invest in some RAM, OC that too. I would OC the video card too, but that's not wise.

None of that matters. He should be running the game with at least 100FPS.

Fan speed is high enough (60%)

Cpu is fine, everything seems fine

What do you guys think is the problem?

Well, you could try the 8.8 beta drivers or the 8.6 stable. The only other thing that I could think of is that you may have a dud card.

my motherboard is an asus p5b. it has 1 4 pin connector

Would it help at all to reinstall my xp, I'm guessing that a lot of stuff in my computer might be slowing it down.

I'm also hearing a weird noise from the card.. sounds like if you put a wire between a fan, but not that loud. It goes away when I press down on the card.

I tried the latest asus drivers and I'm getting on average, 20-25fps on high, 1680x1050.

should i exchange this card perhaps?

I don't know about at least 100FPS.

And that was with a QX9770. But yeah, he is getting lower performance than he should be.

That was ran at full settings and with 4x AA. The OP is running with no AA and at high settings. I don't think 100FPS is unreasonable at those settings.

Checl your processors speed, your motherboard might be using some form of green-technology that makes your processor slow down when your not gaming. It might need to be turned off. Update your bios, from the asus website. Check with another game, also, defrag your hard drive.

It's things like that which you need to mention in your first post. It doesn't matter much in CoD4, but it certainly matters in a game like Crysis. Try to give us as much info as possible, even if you think we might already know it.

I would expect you to get around 60FPS in CoD4. Do other games play slowly aswell, or is just this game? Also, is AA enabled in-game or in Catalyst Control Center?

Ok I found out that my computer is shutting off because of my CPU.

I cleaned the CPU fan and now that problem is solved, computer seems somewhat faster now.

however, my average fps is still 25-30. i dip into the 40's and 50's, but for the most part it's at 25..

Yes, but his processor is considerably weaker than a QX9770 (about equivalent to an X2 4800+, in most benchmarks I've seen). I'd think his settings would be equivalent to Anandtech's results at best.

You don't need the Asus drivers (that are surely pre 8.7) after installing 8.7. Uninstall the Asus drivers and 8.7, reboot and reinstall 8.7.

Yeah, please tell us those details. Also, that FPS is still pretty low. I have an E2200 at 2.2 GHz, with 2 GB of ram and a 4850, and I average 38 FPS with all settings on high in Crysis (not "very high"). seems like you've got a problem...

...or there is something else you aren't telling us...
