Been a console play all my life. After playing Guild Wars 2 at my cousin's house, I was convinced that I needed to join the PC gaming community. So after lots of research, I finally ordered all the parts I needed for a $900 pc. But the problem is, I am feeling buyers remorse. Spending 1/4 of the money I have in my bank account to just play GW2 is starting to make me nervous. So what great experiences are out there for PC gaming?

Ill throw in to that list ^^

Amnesia: The dark descent

Sleeping dogs (pc version is wonderful)

Company of Heroes

(company of Heroes 2 (when it is out)

Natural Selection 2 (is out in the really near future, like a couple of weeks)

Max Payne 3 (if you dont have it for console)

Minecraft

The two latest FO and Elder scrolls games (if you havent playied them on console, even then try getting one, its a good interduction to modding)

the STALKER series, atleast SoC and CoP

Metro 2033 (if you do not have it on console)

Diably 3

Starcraft 2

Arma 2 combined ops (for Day Z)

Hard Reset

Vampire the masquerade: Bloodlines (oldie but really good, just apply the community patch)

Killing Floor

Edit: and to make it worse, Install Steam, you do not belive how many random games you did not know existed, that you might find interresting. 300+ games later and I still ahve a love/hate relationship with steam :\

Try Skyrim. If it runs that game fine then you should be good for the others you want to get.

You bought a PC to play GW2? Damn son, no wonder you're getting buyers remorse. Pick up StarCraft II and get good at it. Pick up Civilization V. Dota 2. Team Fortress 2. CS:GO. Games you should not buy for PC: Any console ports. If you have a console, play console games on that instead.

Guildwars 2 is an excellent recent addition, pick it up! Also grab Steam because DAMN, they have anything and just about everything a budding PC gamer could ever need.

Also try to ignore the poster above me, he's filled with some pretty lame advice when it comes to console games brought to PC...there are plenty that are FAR better than their lowly console releases.

Better graphics perhaps, but these games were designed to run on sub-par hardware with console controllers. Console ports are just disappointing to play if you're used to the high-quality games that only a PC can offer you as a gamer. Just play PC exclusive games until you get a feel for what superior hardware and control can do for your gameplay experience. You'll notice why professional gamers choose to play on the PC nine times out of ten.

I always recommend Crysis to people who want to test their PC and don't feel like going on System Lab Requirements (a website that is also called 'Can You Run It?'). A good game to do a stress-test on your processor would be Total War: Shogun 2 - that game takes a good processor and video card to handle the amount of units in one battle, seriously.

I can second most of these games. Great list, also you're going to be hooked on DayZ for a long time if you decide to play it.

Don't get games like battlefield 3, cod and cheap multiplats. I suggest this:

Counter strike: Source / GO

Skyrim with mods

Crysis

Team fortress 2

Battlefield 2

Boat loads of Indie titles worth your time and money. Here are a selection of just a few of the good ones, there are many more in the depths of steam.

Capsized
Limbo
Vessel
Frozen Synapse
Amnesia
Braid
Super Meat Boy
Lone Survivor
Bastion
Cave Story
Trine (1 + 2)
Unmechanical
To name but a few, lol. I've played all of those titles this year, completed most and all of them have been outstanding experiences that are noticably different and quirky in ways that AAA titles just can't hit. They have a real endearing quality, well to me they do anyway, plus they're cheap which is a nice addition, but the price does not reflect the amount of fun you'll have with them in comparison with a standard AAA retail title. You definately get your moneys worth with all the games I have listed.

Also, since you're new to PC gaming in general, you can get loads of older titles that still hold up as awesome titles today and being old can get them for pennies. The Commandos series is one that springs to mind, truly brilliant series and still play very nicely given their age. Half life 2 mod Black Mesa is released next week, thats a remake of the original half life in the Source engine so if you missed this game originally (probably did if you're a consolist) then that would be a good one to see what all the fuss is about and you'll only need half life 2, the mod is free, and I believe half life 2 is on sale on Steam at the moment for .... No I'm wrong, I think it was earlier in the week, shame, it was only about £3.

Some indies like super meat boy are fun but it's not worth living around indies.. They've interesting concepts but they are very mono-dimensional, closer to a minigame than to a real game.

I suggest u play some classic adventure titles like secret of monkey island and broken sword. They've got remastered editions.

Playing the wrong games dude, see my list and play more. Indies are not mini games at all, they generally are smaller as a small team is not gonna create a game as huge as skyrim. But certainly not mini games. I don't say live around em, I play a bit of all, I normally play an Indie alongside a AAA. If you're talking about something like Plants Vs Zombies, yeah I agree that is more mini game esque, but games like Bastion or Braid, how can you even put that in the same sentence as mini game, so so far wrong.

Good shout KiliK, I should've got the witcher being I'm playing the first one at the mo and loving it, lol. Also if anyone like reading at all, the first book The Last Wish I'm about 3/4 of the way through and really enjoying that too.
