I decided to drop from the Ultra to the GTX in-line with the overall opinion on here, but may go dual GTX when I can afford it. Anyway, the final rig I ordered.

Intel® CoreTM 2 Quad Q6700 2.66GHz 8MB Cache 1066MHz FSB

768MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800 GTX

2GB - 2 x 1024MB

250 GB Serial ATA 3 Gbit/s, 7,200 RPM with 8MB Cache

700 Watt Multi-GPU Power Supply

19" Dell UltraSharp 1907FP Black Flat Panel LCD Monitor

Now I'm hoping to be able to max out all high-end games with flawless performance, can I acheive that with the above? If not, what further additions should I make?

I must say, that is one hell of a rig. With all of that computational fire power, I would have gone with the 20" Dell, or even the 24" 2407, but I'm currently gaming on a 19", and games look great. Good components, you'll be very happy with it. How much did you pay?

EDIT: As for your question, you'll easily be able to max games such as BioShock, Crysis, UT3, etc. especially at that resolution.

you should get a monitor, a 19inch 1280x1024 monitor doesn't do a gtx justice. get a 24inch 1900x1200 monitor. also no need to sli unless you have a 2560x1600 monitor.

well the size wouldn't really affect your eyes, LCD's are very easy on the eyes. you could always get a 20inch monitor with 1680x1050 res if there isn't alot of room to spare.

Do you really think it's a good idea getting a monitor with this native resolution?

Tell me the same with Crysis! It's better having a lower native resolution and be able the play at native resolution at max setting than having a big native resolution and never been able to max it.

Playing at lower resolution than native resolution is killing the visual, end of story.

It should have a higher resolution, but a 19" 5:4 monitor feels bigger than a lot of widescreens do. I think he'll be reasonably happy playing games on it.

The gtx can handle that resolution very well, maybe he wont be able to put everything at ultra max but he still would be able to at least run crysis at very high. however the 1900x1200 resolution offers a much better image then the 1680x1050 res. A large difference worth investing.

From what we know about Crysis, is that it run well... at 1024X768...

Playing at 1280X1024 with everything, and I mean AA and AF, is as good as playing at a higher resolution without them.

Resolution is one thing, but panel colour quality is the most important aspect with a monitor IMO. I got a VP930B because of the great versatility and the colour Quality. Running a game at native resolution is the most importan aspect of LCDs, if you don't do so even with super hungry games, you will lose a lot of image quality.

I still think that 1440 X 900 and 1280 X 1024 are still the best gaming resolution and they are way over 720p.
