I play alot of BF2, and I decided to give BF2142 a try. I upgraded my PC and it ran beautifully (max settings) as opposed to a slideshow. I love futuristic sci-fi shooters. The game looks very nice, but as I played...well, I couldn't figure out what to do. I'm not sure if I just didn't get it, but it felt that the game wasn't very cohesive. It was the demo though and it comes with 1 map, the map was the Sidi Power Plant.....maybe it was just a bad map. I don't have this problem with BF2, but I just couldn't put my finger on what was so off about BF2142 and why I couldn't get into the game. Any thoughts from other people?

I'm trying to decide between buying Quake Wars or BF2142. I'm buying within the hour. So far, Quake Wars made the best impression on me. Still, I feel that I didn't get the full effect of what BF2142 has to offer (rank system, unlocks, etc...)

To those who have played both, what are your thoughts?

According to Gamespy Stats, BF2142 outranks Quake Wars by a moderate margin.

i'd probably go with BF2142, mostly because you can get more or less the same experience as Quake Wars w/ Wolfenstein ET, just with a WWII setting, and for free

BF2142 is 100X better than Quake Wars. I found Quake Wars really lame.

Maybe you were playing titan which is the new mode in 2142. It also has the same mode for BF2.

I understand how you felt but once you learn more of the ins and outs of the game and find a good server the feeling is no longer there. Infact Sidi powerplant is one of my favorite maps in the game. I do enjoy BF2142 more than BF2, but that is because 2142 is more infantry focused.

I caved in and got both, since BF2142 was $30, I looked at it as a bonus-purchase. If both were $50, I probably would've gone with BF2142.

^I think you'll be fairly satisfied with 2142. The thing about the demo is that you can't use any of the unlocks. When you start the full game, you won't have any unlocks available and content may seem a little wanting at first, but you quickly rank up (MUCH faster than in BF2) and get nifty gadgets and eventually alternate weapons, which really boosts the experience. You also can't get awards in the demo, which are a lot funner to acquire in 2142 than in BF2 (thanks to the addition of pins and the fact that everything except medals gives you points).

Oh yeah, I'd also recommend getting the booster pack, Northern Strike. It should be really cheap (was $10 at release), and it adds ten more unlocks, most of which are fairly useful.

I'd stick with BF2 personally :P I have played both loads, the combat in bf 2142 is better but i feel there is an intentional lack of content from EA. Notice how EA announced an expansion pack soon after release? Not cool.

I bought the BF2142 Deluxe Edition, comes with Northern Strike.

Personally I find Quake Wars much more enjoyable than BF2 or BF2142. It's just that Quake Wars needs to have both sides working really well amongst themselves to become that more enjoyable. Along with the speed of play and you have a game which can really frustrate you. Which is a lot different from the style of play in BF2 and BF2142.

I like quake wars a lot. its i guess more a team player game. if you like the demo you will like the full game :)

bf2142 is great and the only reason i don't play it any more is played it to death when it came out.

SKaREO

thats true. i got banned for a week from the official Splash Damage (the developer) Quake Wars forum because I said Battlefield was a better game.

BTW, I have BF2, BF2142 and Quake wars. QW is aweful, its too complicated. IMO, BF2142 > BF2 bc BF2142 is more balanced, in BF2 heli's and jets own the battlefield.
