Doom 3 was boring...after the initial "WoW, looks at those graphics", the gameplay is really repetitive and the monster AI is non-existent. You want to get really scared, try Dead SpaceFelipeInsideDoom 3 added a new level of immersion to video games: u could play the arcade game in the corner or talk to the people going through the convincing motions of daily life, having conversations, going about their work...and u could pick up and read/listen to all the PDAs. That gave a lot of story to a game so firmly grounded in: See it, Shoot it. And besides, the monster AI doesn't rlly have to exist considering the only place u fight in mostly is cramped corridors, where they just have to know how to move towards u...

You are one of those gamers who doesn't like playing any game older than a couple of years aren't you? cos you sure sound like it. The Monster AI didn't need to be good since it is mostly set in corridors and it wasn't repetitive, it was a scary game and is a great addition to the Doom family. If anything, dead space copies it.
Doom 3 is horrible and an embarrassment to the original Doom games._Memento_Oh memento...I DISAGREE!!! *speeds off*
Cause Doom 3 was legendary lol.Quake 4 was a good game but for some reason I thought that Quake 4 was worst than Doom 3.Prey was an amazing game aswell.K1LLR3175Doom 3 was pretty good, and Quake 4 had some good moments, with the excpetion of the last boss and the multiplayer. Prey just didn't excite me at at.
[QUOTE="K1LLR3175"] Prey just didn't excite me at at.Valkyrie_44I completely agree. Prey kind of felt liek a sore thumb of a game. It just sort of popped up to jump on the Doom 3 engine band wagon.
Doesn't Doom 3 have a lot less monsters than the original games? biggest_loserYea it does. But it doesn't matter. The setting would be too clutered if it had 20 or 30 enemies in each corridor. Its more based on building atmosphere than killing everything.

IMO Quake 4 was superior in (almost) everyway. Game ran better, it had alot more action, much better level design. Raven did with Quake 4 what id should have done with Doom.......made it fun. I'll admit the Doom storyline was a bit better than Quakes tho..but a good story won't save mediocre gameplay.
Has anyone seen my duct tape? I can't see anything........

Wait, didn't you just describe Dead Space, too? "boring...really repetitive...no AI"
At least Doom 3 felt new and exciting at the time - Dead Space just felt like the large number of horror/shooters that it borrowed ideas from.
Didn't like it. It was definitely crushed by its hype adversary at the time: Half-Life 2. Great looking game for the time though. It's what pushed PC gaming far beyond the Xbox at the time.GodLovesDeadAbsolutely correct. It was overshadowed rightfully. I wonder what the port was like *shudder*
I thought doom 3 was pretty awfull for a number of reasons.
The interactivity is not all that innovative.. see System Shock 2 for how it's really done. Also, those touches and details never actually matter. Instead of them becoming interactive story telling tools they never amount to more than polish and glitter.
Doom is a the classic FPS / Shooter / Blow monsters to smitthereens. With Doom 3 I guess they decided that survival horror was more fun than shooting monsters.
Overall I was disapointed and coulndt even be bothered to play all the way through.
[QUOTE="Hellboard"]hmm i like the sci fi and its a long log long long game.. ok in my book ill give it an 8!Kolossi
The lenght is one of the three main things which make Doom 3 IMO so great. Absolutely perfect lenght.
oh yeah i love that 30 levels YAY!... or 25 i dont remember correctly.. but still yeah.. eg crysi got 11 levels but feel like 9.. but wtf doom 3 levels tale much longer time to complete..that is true but compared to the new fps... eg did you find far cry 2 less boring? i like far cry 2 but for different reasons!I thought doom 3 was pretty awfull for a number of reasons.
