So I'm sitting here on my netbook this early morning (an el cheapo acer netbook by the way) and I decide to check out onlive, and just see how it runs on the netbook over wifi. Within about 8 minutes I'm playing Dirt 2 in what appears nearly full detail with very good video quality and no lag. This thing is brilliant! I have trouble watching higher def youtube videos on this thing, yet Onlive runs amazingly. Only gripe I have is that it doesn't have the best selection of games but still.....anyone else into it?hollisterfanAre you in USA?
Its an interesting concept that appears to be pirate proof.
I look forward to seeing how well it does.
I was skeptical about it at first, but after I trying it, I thought the performance was way better than I expected it. There was almost no lag and was really smooth. FRAPS was showing 60fps, but I don't think that's the actual frame rate considering it's, for a lack of better word, a video stream. The quality was not great, specifically for Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands and Unreal Tournament 3, but FEAR looked decent. It definitely did the job and I imagine those with not-so-great PC would find more value in it.flipin_jackassBut I ask again, do you live close by to Onlive?
It was ok, my biggest issues despite what it said it appears you needed a line pretty much to yourself, if people started getting on it lagged majorly. It look at around consoles graphics not close to maxed out on pc. I tried it out at the college i took a class out wifi and it ran horrible, so its kidna plus if i'm at a airport or something like that were it would be good it just doesn't work.

I tried it out and I was impressed. The resolution was pretty poor but nevertheless it was playable. Its pretty cool that they were able to pull it off.
Crappy games though.

Imagine someone living with a slower internet somewhere in Europe, or here in Australia...? We get high pings on simple games like CoD MP....imagine a full blown video stream with keyboard and mouse input. As I've always said with Onlive, it will fail...
What if they add data centres to other countries such as UK, Australia, Russia, Germany, France, etc? Then it might become feasible but I would imagine the costs would be very, very high.the_ChEeSe_mAn2Yes, that would be the way to go....but like you say, imagine the COSTS??? If huge companies like Blizz don't do it with WoW, you think a starting company like OnLive will...?

Generally speaking, Europe has faster Internet than America with no download caps.

Blizzard runs numerous European World of Warcraft servers.
OnLive have said that they are starting in America-only, but they want to set up servers in Europe as well.

Yes, but not ALL of Europe.
Very true, still would lag to somewhere like Australia....or from USA to somewhere like Brazil.
I think the only way to go would for them to put a server in every single continent....or actually, a few different servers....
It's interesting if you don't already have a gaming PC of sorts.KHAndAnimeYes it is.... but for someone who doesn't have a gaming PC, and doesn't know much about PC....wouldn't they just go out and buy a CONSOLE? Unless they really REALLY want to play some PC exclusive, but then they have to make sure it's available on OnLive...

Of course, I believe they said that a server can't be farther than a few hundred kilometers for optimal performance. That's why OnLive is not available to anyone outside of North America.

Yes, would make sense....you need really good ping for it to work. I just don't see it.... too much maintenance money compared to amount of people who are actually gonna use the service....As I guessed, you are in the same country as OnLive, that's why it works fine. Imagine someone living with a slower internet somewhere in Europe, or here in Australia...? FelipeInsideI don't know and don't want to speculate what the service would be like in another country or continent. I wasn't really suggesting for anyone to subscribe (or not subscribe) to the service. I only gave a feedback of my experience.
PS. How dare you say Canada is in the same country as Onlive (U.S.)? Don't make me beat you with my hockey stick.

No of course not, I just wanted to know where you were located.
Ahahahahah., sorry about the Canada thing... my apologies....although Toronto is dead-smack glued to the US border right?
