I was unable to find a topic already on the subject, so here it is.

I installed Kane & Lynch, and it starts fine, but would crash barely two minutes into it.

I have since found out several things:

USB keyboards with media keys are known to cause the game to crash

Microsoft Sidewinder Mouse is known to have issues as well.

the common thread here is USB. Supposedly there is a polling conflict with these items.

I have been unable to find any drivers that solve this.

I did change my resolution from 1600x1200 to 1280x1024, this allowed me to play the game for almost an hour, at which time it crashed again. This time it did save, but not up to the point at which it crashed.

I am going to try unplugging my Sidewinder next to see if it helps (I don't have a media keyboard).

I guess my question is this:

Has anyone had similar problems, and if so, what did you do to solve it?

TIA for replies.

Nice to see that you did some experimenting and research before coming here...must be a first lol.

Anyways, to get an error log of what's wrong go to :

For XP

start->right click my computer->click manage->click on event viewer->click on application->find the time and what and there should be an error log there, open it up->highlight the error->Ctrl+C->Open google->Ctrl+V (or paste)-> should bring up some results; if no results appear remove the first or second half of the error (try both).

I don't know how to get to the event view on Vista but I'm going to assume it's similar :)

I don't know why I've completely forgotten to grab my error log :?

I'm normally more on top of things than that, lol.

I am running Windows 7, but so far, I'm fairly certain that it is not the O/S, as I've installed many, many games on it and this is the only one that seems to be giving me issues.

But then again, it could be, I'll take a look at the error log and see if it leads me to anything, I'll post it as well to see if somebody catches something I might be missing.

Thanks.

EDIT:

I should point out that unplugging my Sidewinder mouse may or may not have helped, some.

I was able to play for about an hour, at which point it crashed. After subsequent attempts it seems to crash in about 10-15 minutes of play.

I don't know if this info helps or not.

Thanks, I think I may have tried this, but I'll take a look at it when I get home.

I haven't been to that site. I've actually never heard of it, but if this is possible, then other sites could do the same thing maybe? The computer I have this running on is kept pretty secure, and I don't use that one to go to "questionable" sites if I can help it since I also run my company off of that machine (actually as a backup machine to my laptop for business use). But thank you for that tip, I will check my history & cookies and delete them just in case one of my kids was using it and "accidentally" went to one of those sites (they are 8 & 2, so I doubt it, but you never know). I am starting to think it is an issue with Windows 7, which to date has run pretty much perfectly for me, but I am guessing that there may be some driver "bugs" that haven't made themselves evident enough yet to be addressed. So time will tell since I have been unable to find any other solutions. Thanks for the tips and advice guys.
