I was thinking of purchasing KOTOR of steam, and was wondering if it works with wndows 7?

Also are there any graphical mods, to make the game look better??

I played through it on Win7-64. It was just fine, but I did have to run it in windowed mode because of a couple weird issues. Also, you have to modify the V-SYNC option because if it is set to the default it makes your characters semi-uncontrollable. Ya, I know that sounds weird and unrelated, but it was a pretty common issue. Easy workarounds though for an epic game.

It crashes a lot. I was still able to play through it. Just save often.

You can make KotOR run widescreen with the methods in this guide. Disclaimer: I haven't tried that one, but other guides from that site are good and work well. The most recent one I tried was the one for KotOR2. Got it up to 1900x1200, cut-scenes as well. :)

the retail kotor version runs fine. I've played it on win7-64bit and haven't had a single crash. Don't know about the steam version though.

Hmm, well for me when i ran it full screen, one thing in particular i remember is that the game minimized during cutscenes and showed the desktop. When I clicked on the game to bring it back up the cutscene was over and I missed it. :(

There may have been some other technical issues with the cutscenes too....that was the biggest issues, the game itself ran fine fullscreen.

Yeah, I had to do some extra stuff to get the cut scenes right. Don't remember exactly what it was, but it was either in the guide or there was a link in the guide to what needed to be done.

Runs fine on Windows 7 64bit, though you might have to disable the movies.

I couldn't get that program to work for Kotor2. It worked for Kotor1. Did you edit the hex files in the executable file, perchance?

I can't get KOTOR to run for very long without crashing on my windows 7!!! Argh! Normally it crashes around the "select picture" option in character create. Earlier today I got to the second room haha. I'm dying to play it, anyone have a fix for it??

Just like the others, I had to run it in windowed mode with the 2 black bars.

That's what I did! :) I manually edited them all. It took for-effing-ever, but it wasn't difficult, just time consuming.

Okay. That's what I thought. I saw what hex codes to edit in one of the forums over there. I'm might give that a try when I have more time. Cheers. :)

If you do decide to go through and edit hex values, it won't adjust the mini-map so you need to get the separate patch for hat (link in the guide), and the mouse goes nutso and stops working after combat if you don't disable v-sync in the video options. Just FYI. Enjoy! :)

Yeah.. I don't think I'm going to bother getting KOTOR for PC. Seems like a hassle just getting it to workcjasko94

It's actually not a hassle, at all. I've played Kotor on XP and 7 without any problems. Most of the banter in this thread is just about installing mods for widescreen, which isn't at all necessary to enjoy the game.
