I don't have time to play games much these days since I have a wife and a child on the way....I just realized it's been a long time since I bought a new game, it was L4D when it first launched. I decided I'm going to buy a new game today and have narrowed it down to L4D 2 and Borderlands. I love me some L4D, one of the great things about it was how I could play for 30min-1hr and feel a sense of accomplishment and had a great time. Borderlands looks very interesting and different but it also looks like I would be required to put in some serious gameplay time to enjoy it properly. When I have time to play games, it's almost always under 2hrs at a time...maybe 10hrs/wk total if I'm lucky. I'm leaning more towards Borderlands since it seems so different, but is it a fun game in short bursts of gameplay? Thanks

Both fun games but IMO Left4Dead2 is the better game.

Do you want lots of loot? Or do you want a more pure FPS? Borderlands is RPG-Lite/FPS and it focuses on tons of different loot (weapons) - if you want slightly more than a normal shooter, but less than an RPG this is a good idea. L4D2 would be the choice if you prefer killing some zombies (and if you liked L4D1 alot) Borderlands can be extremely fun in short bursts - though sometimes that can add to aggravation when completing missions due to re-spawns (in some areas I have killed the same set of enemies 20+ times because of my short spurt playing).

To be honest, L4D2 sounds more like what you may want, but that isn't to say Borderlands isn't worth checking out. It does not take a long time to feel rewarded in Borderlands, and you can certainly play for an hour or 2 a day. The problem is that loot whoring is so much fun you may find 1 or 2 hours turning into 4 or 5.

L4d2 no doubt. Borderlands is like, the WoW of FPS, a huge grind fest.

Congratulations on your growing family! I am like you in that I like to be able to play in short bursts. You can definitely get enjoyment in installments with Borderlands. It has checkpoints that it saves automatically, so you can easily exit at any time and restart (though I often just pause the game since we have multiple computers in the house and/or you can minimize it). I enjoyed Borderlands (I just finished). I particularly like how easy it was to pick up side quests and just work on whatever was most fun at the time. In other games, I often found the side quests to be a bit of a burden. I liked L4D 2 as well, but from a value for money perspective, I preferred Borderlands. I find L4D 2 to be a bit repetitive. I am more of a single-player person, so I know that a lot of people find L4D 2 to be great in multi-player. I found Borderlands to have a richer environment with tons of weapons and a pretty easy inventory management capability. Another nice feature is that you can earn inventory slots and buy ammo slots, so you do not have to spend so much time trading off what loot you are going to collect. I finished L4D2 in hours and I spent days (in short bursts) on Borderlands. Have fun!

I personally prefer Borderlands, but L4D2 is a total blast and probably more fitting given your lack of free time.

To me Borderlands has become the Borederlands.

Part of this is due to me being stuck in singleplayer mode - unable to get my stinking router to work (I still remember the headaches...).

Also the gameplay gets old in a suprisingly short amount of time - part of this is the developers do very little to spice things up - it's just the same damn thing over and over.

I'd say get L4D2, borderlands gets a bit reptitive and there isn't a heap of motivation to get through.

I would go with L4D2. Borderlands was fun, and the gameplay was really good, but now that I've beaten it, I don't really get a need to play it anymore.

i think i wouldn't mind trading in left 4 dead for boarderland. left for dead is fun for a while, till you reach a curtain amount of achievements, then it gets bored. right now i'm here waiting for some DLC to drop, that justify me a reason to play it again. I just finish playing a hour ago, only because i was bored. Boarder land seems cool, since you can upgrade your character and what not, basically do more. i logged in 99hours in left 4 dead 2, but right now im bored with it and dont feel the need to do anymore.

Left four for dead too two by a country mile. Borderlands is a single player game to be honest, the co op is very badly implemented.

I have both games. But i would say Borderlands would be better cause its like a RPG. L4D2 is like quick game with friends in a short level. Its pretty much up 2 you there both good games.

Hopefully they label the package "gift" or the customs charges will be through the roof. As for what to get, I haven't played either yet but from what my friends say L4D2 is the better pick. The only one who likes Borderlands more is also strongly into grinding in WoW....
