Alright, this is beyond annoying now. I have a problem where after x minutes/hours of play, the game and my computer completely locks up, meaning I have to restart. I can't open task manager or anything. I've updated drivers, verified game files, defragged etc, but it keeps happening. Does anyone else having this problem. The only suggestion I've gotten is disable multi-core rendering, but my fps drops like a brick with it off. What else can I do?

Specs are:

Athlon 64x2 4200+

3gb ddr2 ram

Geforce 8800gts 640mb

Settings are all maxed. 4x af and no aa on 1152xwhatever res.

I don't know. I'm downloading CoD5, so it's too laggy to play. I'm not playing single player.

So what makes you think it's the game? L4D has never given me one tiny problem.

What do you mean, "arrogant little twerp?" You didn't give any valid evidence that the problem was with his PC, and he asked an entirely valid question.

Oh, so you get technical errors and blame the game? At least I hate the game for the actual game itself, not how my computer runs it (superbly, btw).

Dudes right. I remember these kind of problems before my 8800gtx overheated and died. Next you might see short red lines going diagonally across the screen.

I had frame issues and not sure what worked as I did it all at the same time but I.

- Installed the latest drivers
- Installed the latest DX10
- Run windows update
- Run ccleaner
- typed msconfig in run and disabled everything in the startup tab and under the services tab I clicked hide microsoft and disabled what I could there.
- typed chkdsk in run
- run disk cleanup
- run malware bytes and spybot search and destroy

Finally I uninstalled the game, delete the left 4 dead folder in the steam directory and restarted my PC and reinstalled again and the game works perfectly. I didn't defrag my drive so I'm not gonna bother with that just in case it's causing a problem.

It also helps to blow all the dust outta your GPU and clean up your PC incase the cooling can't do it's job. Check with your Drivers at what temp your GPU is running at incase that is overheating and check your CPU temp too which you can check that via a program called core tmp.

Also what PSU are you using because a crap PSU can cause problems.

Oh, wait. So I'm not allowed to blame the game, when every other game I own runs perfectly? This is the only one I've had problems with and I know the temperatures are fine. Anyway, I've re-installed XP now, so I'll try it out.

Make sure you've got updates turned on. In the early days of dual core processing, AMD had numerous issues with XP. That all got patched though, so if it's a newer service pack or auto updating is on, you shouldn't have any problems.

No, nothing's overclocked. I had evga precision open when playing and the graphics card stayed at about 60-65 degrees throughout and I exited after about 30 mins of playing before it crashed, and used Speedfan to check the rest. They were all fine. I don't know about the accuracy of the readings, but they can't be WAY off.

Try this it'll update your DX to the latest version. I thought I had the latest version but I think it's what fixed my framerate issues cause.
