Well, L4D, right now, is kind of lacking content, so, assuming you're getting the Orange Box and not the Vanilla version, I'd say TF2 is the better deal.
imo Counter Strike Source is a better multiplayer game than LFD and Team Fortress 2. LFD is fun un all but still... 50$ fun. Not so sure. If i were you I would put the cash towards something else completely. Or just buy Team Fortress 2 as it's 10 bucks untill monday.
Buy the Orange Box. It's still less money than Left 4 Dead and you'll get: Half Life 2, Half Life 2 Ep. 1, Half Life 2 Ep. 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. It's a no brainer. Then, When there's more content for Left 4 Dead and it's dropped in price pick that up.
TF2 by far. L4d is incredibly overrated just because its developed by Valve. TF2 has lasted me since beta...and I still occasionally play casually an hour or two a week. L4D gets old very quickly and the game doesn't feel very special. It isn't a bad game but I have a feeling if Valve didn't make it...it would of been forgotten by now.
I would go with TF2. Gameplay is just all-around fun. My only gripe with CS:S is that you gotta be really into it all the time to be successful. With TF2, just running around shooting randomly can prove to be fun and won't involve you dying from a headshot every 2 seconds.
