I just wanted you guys to know ;)

Its a demoPlayed it the second it went on...but the two maps are or seem to be very..very short to me.

Of course you're preloading the whole game, how else would you have a demo if it weren't the full game with cut out content that makes up the rest of the game? L4D 2 isn't only 3.6 gigs, it's around 5 or so.Seems I am having to pre-load the entire game before being capable of playing the demo? Seems a bit fail? :(

I can't get it to start. Just downloaded it and it says Left 4 dead 2 Demo on the games list but when I click it it says pre load complete - purchase to unlock. I thought this was an open demo, not the pre order demo?

That does seem a bit fail.. if i'm not buying the game i just want to play the demo as it is, i don't NEED to pre load the whole game so why are they making us!

There was just a Steam update to solve a problem when starting the demo. Played it, more of the same, nothing more, nothing less.
Has anyone from Australia downloaded it? I click on the install game option at the demo screen but nothing happens. Is the demo available to Australians?screamingdoomDont you guys have a restriction on 18+ games? Maybe thats why?
Liked:
-Melee weapons (and associated satisfying sounds they make as you chop up zombies)
-MUCH, much better crescendo moments. You actually have to complete an objective rather than corner camp.
-Variation in normal zombies adds a whole lot more to the gameplay. Really a lot more fun than spraying randomly and killing harmless zombies.
-Level design is more interesting.
Disliked:
-Fewer areas to explore? Doesn't seem like there's as many small rooms to check out for goodies.
-Graphics don't seem nearly as good, but I guess that's worth the sacrifice to have more zombies on screen
-Changes to director aren't that apparent and don't really add a whole lot of replay value. I was really hoping for a drastic change in the way you proceed through a level, but it seems like instead of taking the door on the right, you take the door on the left and it leads you to the same room. It was over-hyped, again ='/
-Friendly AI is CLEARLY worse than the original. They'll stand right by you while a hunter is eating your face or a jockey is making you his new buddy from the rear. They also don't seem to keep up with the player.
Like someone else said there's a steam update that lets you play the demo, it's called "November 3, 2009 - Steam client update released" "A Steam client update is now available. To apply the update, click the File menu inside of Steam and then select "Check for Steam Client Updates...". The specific changes include:
Steam Client
Once you install this update the L4D2 demo in your games list should change from preload complete to 100% ready. Try restarting steam or playing a game and exiting to get the update. Sometimes I don't get updates straight away even though my setting is automatically download updates when available.
the demo is available in AUS, and it is the censored version. Although, I downloaded my demo when I had the game pre-ordered, but because the game is so censored I canceled my pre-order still having the demo installed.
I can't download it, even pre load, there are apparently already too many people doing so that it is overloading the Steam servers. *sigh*
what? the graphics are a clear improvement from the first i think. and they certainly stepped up the gore effects. maybe you need you raise some settings o.oLiked:

I did the new steam update and I can't DL it either. I seem to remember this happening with the first L4D demo as well. Pretty pathetic Valve.
NiteX
Dude, it's not even pathetic. It's a popular game (the first incarnation) and of course a ton of people are going to be playing the demo and downloading it. That means that the servers are going to be stressed. They shouldn't have to upgrade servers so absolutely everyone can get it right away and totally download the game at 12 kb/s. That would be stupid.
I'd just be patient, wait a few hours, and try again. If it's not working, restart Steam, it's happened to me a few times with other games.
Is the demo for all? or just for preorders only at the moment?
Because i downloaded the "free demo" and it didnt mention anything about pre-order, after its finished i cant launch due to i have to pre order the game.
This demo public yet? or still for pre orders only :/?
is anyone else getting extreme stuttering?
mrbojangles25
Runs fine for me. On par with the original L4D.

hmm, same, runs smooth as heck for mehmmm thats odd.
I did just update my nvidia drivers, but that shouldnt be a problem
It is my first L4D game and I find it simply amazing.
I just wish I had a mic.
samuraiguns
Oh yes, go get a 5$ mic at wal-mart, that'll suit ya just fine. As for being new to L4D, this demo reminds me of how I felt when I played the first, simply ecstatic. Weird thing is though, the more I'm playing the demo, the more and more I am wanting to play the original. I've said it before and Ima stick to it, Ima buy L4D2 in 2 months when the steam sale is 50% off...or it's 25 bucks on newegg... but until then, the demo sure was fun! :)
It stuttered for the first time for me as well. I then played for like a minute in single player adjusting the Video settings, now it plays smoothly again and with high settings. I don't know why it stuttered at first.
And what is this about 2 maps? For me I think there is only 1 map...
I just finished the Parish and I gotta comment that this isnt too different with L4D1. basically 4 players follow a path until the safe house while killing zombies in the middle.
the map was all day light, and it didnt deliver the same creepy, scary theme that I got from L4D1.
it is very disappointing so far. Im glad that i didnt preorder.
The demo crashes after about 5-6 minutes of play; as does playing the original L4D. All other steam games are fine. Anyone have any idea whats going on?
