I have to say, that scavanger mode sure does bring out the malicious side of people.

The one inherent problem is the fact that - because you dont have a respawn for the humans and that things can go wrong with a small mistake - people start getting angry and thrash about like its life and death. I, for example, was kicking major ass one round and really did well and then the next round a made a mistake and a one guy with a mic would not stop talking. If it were someone else and I were in his position I would see it as just making a mistake. I know some people are incompetent but seriously? How long has the game been out? A few weeks?

I just feel as though people need to realize that everyones gotta start somewhere. I also feel as tho the mic is what changes things. I dont use a mic - I know I know that kinda sucks the life out of L4D - but Im just waiting for a good chance to invest in a USB mic that I can just plug into the front of my comp. I had having to go behind my computer and change wires. Its annoying. But anyway you going back to the rant and statement - the mic allows things to happen quickly and in my case faster than I have time to explain myself.

lol anyway, I know I probably sound jaded but I just wanted to say something about it to everyone. Im almost 21 years old myself and while I keep my cool it doesnt seem to translate as needed and its weird - especially when some players seem like they are my age or older.

Love it or hate it. Thats my rant.

Similar thing happened to me. I was the last survivor (all my teammates were down) and there was a jockey nearby, so I chased it with an axe since I ran out of bullets. I didn't know he had already used his jump, so I wanted to make sure he died before I saved my teammates. Instead, a smoker got me and my teammates wouldn't shut up about my failure. I mean it's just a game, jeez

the worst part is that you can get sucked into the culture of raging..people give you **** a ton and then you eventually start doing it to other people because you get raged at so often by random idiots

Ya exactly. I mean, I know for sure that Im making every effort to contribute to the team and I feel as tho thats the best part but people with mics are in the clouds. lol Im trying myself to accelerate the process of finding a USB Headset in my price range just so I can help chill the atmosphere. Part of having a good team is letting people know they can succeed and letting them know that they are welcome and if that doesnt happen how is it possible to keep the team together. People are either going to quit out or just make more mistakes.

Sounds like just about every other online game. People take this stuff a bit too seriously to the point where nobody is having fun.

Only thing I hate abotu Left4Dead1/2 is sometimes the community can be a bit ridicolous. As you said everyoen has to start off somewhere and people seem to forget that and act like they where perfect there first time playing.

Also the main issue I have with Left4Dead1/2 is on versus mode is seems so hard to get a full game of Versus done. People seem to quit 90% of the tiem if they are getting beat. Who cares if you are getting beat? Games are not all about winning imo, all this quitting is just really childish to me. I can see if you have to go eat dinner or your on your way to work adn you gotta leave, but it happens far to much in games and also always seems to be on the team that is behind.

Overall I love Left4Dead2 and enjoyed the first one, but there are a few issues i have with it (mainly the community side).

Im def impressed with all the improvements in Left4Dead2 though! The new weather system is awesome, the death animations are great now and its alot harder!

Then again Left4Dead isnt the first series to have quitters and people yelling at you if your not doign a perfect job, just seems to happen a bit more on this series then others.

Well Im singling out L4D2 because of one thing - its mostly a co-op game. If you look at TF2 and other games you can easily brush off douche bags trying to give you a thrashing because its a way bigger team and if one makes a mistake theres a lot of other people that can take up the slack. In L4D2 you are under a little more pressure because you are 1 of 4 and if you make a mistake you really could end the game just like that. I think that needs to be remedied somehow but I dont know any other way other than giving the humans respawn of giving the teams more player slots. I love the game - as the title implies - but that is my one complaint. The campaign and survival dont really see the same amount of tension or maliciousness from what Ive experienced so far. I love playing Survival. I think things start to twist out of shape when you take the co-op out and stick people in a small space with gas cans and crazy special zombies with human brains behind em. lol I mean - I pissed off someone on my team just for going AFK to give my mom the phone. lol they didnt even give me the chance to explain myself before kicking. lol. It was just a few seconds too.

There is a bug in the game that crashes to the desktop. That could be the problem. I've crashed to my desktop 10 times or so already.

I can't stand talking to complete randoms in games. If its someone I've played with on more than a few occasions perhaps, but in general I don't bother. Last thing I want is to be berated over a game. Winning is lovely, but being routinely vicious because someone may have just started, or because they made a mistake doesn't help anything.

One of the biggest reason i wont touch the multiplayer, i dont have a mic so im not just gonna sit there and let some guy thinking his tough run his mouth endlessly. ill probably play it online with at least one or two friends on my team, so i know i wont get kicked out for not having a mic.

This. I see this behavior in everything. Even in WoW. People need to learn that games are played for fun. You'd think they were playing for real life cash or something the way they take it so seriously.

Yeah, that's why some get mad because it loses its fun factor when you got people not knowin what they're doin.

I remember one vs game where my entire team raged after losing a map. I stuck around for the next few rounds until it filled up again, then said that I had to go...and naturally everyone on their team accused me of raging. :/

Ive met many people online who rage whenever I(or anyone else) kills them twice or thrice in a row. Ignoring them is the best that can be done without escalating the situation.

I have a mic, but I only use it for useful things, like telling peeps where items are and warning them about stuff. Occasionally a short chat with a friend, but nothing else.

Worst part is when someone vote kicks you from a sever because you apparently aren't playing properly. I've had this happen with L4D1 and have even been banned from servers because of idiots who kick people like this, usually no one else knows whats going on and votes 'yes' when the vote starts. Its completely ridiculous.

Yeah, people just need to learn it doesn't matter. So, someone cusses you out in game... who cares? Just laugh at them for letting a game get them bent out of shape. Or even have fun trying to make them even angrier. Only time its even remotely an issue is in games where they can kick you out whenever they want.

I usually listen to music while playing anyway so their talk doesn't bother me, but in a game like L4D that relies heavily on teamwork it can be difficult to get a good game going.

People rage over getting killed, someone else getting killed, someone picking up the "wrong" type of weapon, someone not having a mic or having a high ping, someone not helping them up fast enough etc.

Even the tiniest issue seems to make people quit or start a vote, it turns it into a mess where people come and go all the time.

I agree. It's really hard to find that perfect game with good teammates, all with mics and an attitude geared towards having fun.

The neat thing (or bad thing whichever way you want to put it) is that while there are several co-op titles out there, L4D2 is especially one that requires A LOT of communication and teamwork to get through a round of Versus, Scavenge, or Realism. (perhaps in campaign as well although less so than the other modes).

You need to call things out immediately such as items or special zombies that you see, or tell your teammates of your wherabouts if you get a jockey who takes you away from your team, etc. Without a mic, this is extremely frustrating. You need to stick together and coordinate movement. In scavenge mode, you really need to talk to each other. I have not won a single scavenge game where I was the only one with a mic.

My point is that, this game requires (to me) an unprecedented level of 4 player co-operation that, it seems people lack that "people" skill of meeting random people and working closely together. And of course that is hard, but there's that challenging aspect of it.

Unfortunately as pointed out, people do not know how to be in a team. Sure you as an individual could be an amazing player, but you need your teammates as much as they need you. But currently it looks like it's all about "winning" for yourself, blaming others to feel good, leaving immediately at the first sign of trouble etc. It's probably never going to change for the most part.

What I do is play with people I know, whether having met them online, or friends in real life. There is no "rage quit" to worry bout, we all have mics for instant communication, we will never really be mean to each other, and there is a genuine sense of CO-OP going on. You can also play team scavenge games and look for other teams to compete against. Anyway that's my suggestion to you if you ever find yourself being in the OP's situations too often.
