Ahem, yes hello Gamespot. I come from a far away country that uhh may not "entitle" me to purchase the video game "Left 4 Dead 2"

I am the nephew of Douglas Lombardi himself and as such I have no choice but to purchase this game.

However, if I am to buy it from overseas would there be any limitations in playing in my current country?! Will it be regionalised?!

I hope Uncle Doug doesn't make us move again!!

What exactly do you mean by "not entitled"? If you live in Aus or are unable to get it in your country/region. Buy it through Steam, Impulse, or D2D or import it.

Im from Aus too and getting it from steam will give you the censored version, unless You happen to know somebody who doesn't live in an area this is being censored in, and get them to buy the game for you over their steam and gift you it. Thats the best way Iv read at how to get around the censoring. I per-ordered the game on steam a few days ago, and after playing the demo a few times got a refund. The game just doesn't have the same feeling with all the censoring and I wont be buying it until they at least stop bodies from instantly disappearing. Also, Im pretty sure if you imported a hard copy of the game it would work, PC games are region free.

Australian here.

PC Games DO NOT have region codes on them. Import as you please. If I were to get L4D2 (I may still) importing would be the only option. However, I'm wondering if, because the game is activated via Steam, if it's not based on where you bought the game from (ie, the content on the disc) but the internet restrictions Steam places on the user's account depending on their country.

I'm quite sure this isn't true however. I'm pretty damn sure that if you imported the game from, let's say, cdwow.com.au, you would receive the British version of the game (for a far cheaper price I might add), WITH the added gore, and no region encoding to get in your way.

In conclusion > DEFINITELY no Region Encoding, PRETTY DAMN SURE you'll get an entirely uncensored game if you buy it from another country.

Have fun guys.

EDIT: Seriously, biggest_loser, this is the link for you:

http://www.cdwow.com.au/games/LEFT-4-DEAD-2-PC/dp/5792735#bc=8be6

British version, uncensored, reliable website (I've bought many games from here), cheap price (Yes, that is $AU), no shipping and handling expenses. It's too easy.

Considering how L4D2 works (or any Valve game), I'm not sure you can get the uncensored version, even if you buy the retail version from NA, Europe, etc.

That would likely result in resourceful gamers bypassing STEAM authentication and playing on cracked servers.

Yeah but I take it you're in Australian and you downloaded that off steam? Thats not the same buying a copy for overseas.

So you think that Steam recognises your IP not the version of the game you have (Like a US version)
